Course Description: English I is considered a basic introductory English course. It covers a wide variety of authors from many types of writing. Literature and writing are utilized together through the writing process, including vocabulary development, grammar, and literary elements.
Grading Method:
Assessments (common assessments, exams, quizzes, etc.) = 60% of grade
Other (homework, in-class work, projects, etc.) = 40% of grade
Students who are failing English I will be required to attend mandatory tutoring after the 1st mid-quarter grade report and anytime students are failing thereafter.
Possible Assignment Types:

Absences: Should an absence occur, it is the student’s responsibility to get the missed assignments from the teacher or a fellow student. Students will have one day for each day absent to complete any assignments missed. Students with unexcused absences will not be allowed to make up missed work. If students have an excused absence on the day of an exam, students have one week to make up the test. It is up to the student to make arrangements with the teacher regarding when the test will be made up.Major projects are due on the date due with no exceptions. If you are going to be absent from class, it is your responsibility to turn in the project beforehand.
Late Work: While make-up work is work missed for a legitimate absence, “late” work is any work which is simply not completed by the due date. Students will be permitted to turn in late work according to the policy established by the English Department or any written accommodations. It would be in your best interest to complete work on time, but late assignments will no longer be accepted once the Common Assessment is taken and a new skill unit has begun.
Food and Drink: If bottles/wrappers are left in the room, food/drink privileges will be taken away. It is not our job to clean up messes.
