IV. Reports -

New Computer Laptop Distribution for Faculty (Willard Barksdale) –nearly all of the laptops for faculty have been distributed. Laptops for the full-time faculty have been distributed (except for the super users). IT is now distributing the final laptops to adjunct faculty based on a priority list from the Office of Instruction. The Tech Committee commends IT on their speed and efficiency in completing this project.

New College Website (Isite/Bakken Creative) – Last month, Shirleen Schermerhorn and Jane McKenna met with the web design company Bakken (regarding the basic structure for the main college webpage. Jane and Shirleen’s suggestions were based on the hierarchy of our current site. Their main focus was to insure that all current pages will have a logical location in the new site. They also expressed concerns regarding the need for a campus webmaster to keep content on the site current and assist areas with uploading content. Kerry Compton was also scheduled to meet with Bakken regarding student services pages. The new site live date is unknown and training dates have not yet been announced.

Accreditation Webpage – Jane McKenna is working with Eileen White and the Office of Instruction to update campus governance pages with current documents and content. Pages currently being created and/or undergoing an update are College Info, Accreditation, Office of Instruction, College Council, Student Learning Outcomes and Assessment, Division 1, and Division 2. To view the many of the new pages click on College Info from the main COA webpage and scroll down to College Planning.

Laptop Training (Joe Camara) – Just a reminder that IT is not responsible for training.

Wireless Access Project (Bala Sampathraj) – IT has been working with NetXperts to increase wireless access coverage on the campus. Phase 1 is complete and has extended wireless coverage to the entire campus. Phase 2 (no date yet set) will address access within certain problematic areas inside some buildings

District Technology Committee (Bob Grill) – During Passport training, the BRT has identified some problems that they are addressing. COA training for Passport will occur in A228. A demo will be used for training not a live version. March 17 – A & R is being training. March 24 – Financial Aid is being trained. Faculty will need ongoing support and training in the form of a resource center such as the proposed CCTI at COA but currently this is not funded.

V. New Business:

  • College Webmaster – COA Webmaster Resolution

“Whereas, the District has purchased a new website management system and is in the process of migrating the old site info over to the new site

And Whereas, much of the content on the COA website is not current and there is no position officially responsible for updating content of the page, assigning access rights to web authors, trouble-shooting problems with the webpage, or maintaining the currency of content on the pages

Be it Resolved that, the Tech Committee recommends that the VP of Instruction identify funds to secure a part-time college webmaster.” (m/s/u)

  • College E-mail Distribution Lists

MOTION: “In light of the Tech Committee’s concerns regarding the internal communications and accreditation, the Tech Committee directs the VP of Instruction to request that COA aliases for the e-mail distribution lists such as COA-FAC and COA-FAS include current college faculty and staff e-mails.” (m/s/u)

Adjournment:Meeting adjourned at 2:45pm. (M/S/U)
