Purpose: / Each college and identified divisions (Student Affairs, Academic Enrichment, and General Education) will establish a college-level Student Learning Outcomes (SLO) Committee to promote continuous improvement in the quality of teaching and learning.Format: / College-level SLO Committees can be newly created committees or existing committees that satisfy the roles and responsibilities below.
Requirements: / All members of the college-level SLO committees should have completed SLO training facilitated or approved by the GRU Office of Faculty Development and Teaching Excellence.
Roles & Responsibilities: /
- Serve as a resource to assist academic programs with the SLO process and provide feedback as it relates to the creation and selection of student learning outcomes, assessment plans, and program-level use of results to ensure “closing of the loop”.
- Ensure reporting efforts are in compliance with accreditation standards and requirements.
- Establish an appropriate working and reporting relationship with the dean of the college or the dean’s designee
- Facilitate the Peer-to-Peer Review process between colleges and divisions.
- File yearly report of Peer-to-Peer activities and findings to the Office of Institutional Effectiveness and the Office of the Vice President for Academic & Faculty Affairs.
Meeting Schedule: / The college-level SLO Committee should meet at least once each semester to review SLOs, the assessment process, and reporting efforts and provide feedback to the academic programs.
Additionally, the committee should utilize the “SLO Review Rubric” on an annual basis and share the feedback with the programs and the dean or designee.
Timeline/Schedule: /
- September 1st: College-level SLO Committees should be trained as approved by the Office of Faculty Development and Teaching Excellence by September 1st.
- September 30th:Assessment of previous year’sSLOs, assessment plans, and use of results (2013-2014) and plan for current year’s SLO cycle (2014-2015).
