JOB PURPOSE

Organise a team of drivers across both schemes and oversee the maintenance of vehicle fleet, ensuring compliance is up to date and recorded accurately.

To carry out basic daily maintenance as necessary of vehicles.

To further support and enhance any community transport initiatives and opportunities for development.

Ensure that passengers who are eligible to use the service are transported in a safe, comfortable manner, taking into account any special needs they might have. Assist in planning the most cost effective routes.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES

  1. To work closely with the Area Transport Supervisor to ensure the smooth running of the Transport Schemes.
  1. To transport members to and from their destination using the fully accessible minibuses and act in a responsible and sympathetic manner at all times. Provide assistance to passengers taking into account any special needs they might have.
  1. Ensure that CCVS Community Transport’s safety standards are complied with at all times, drive with due care and attention at all times, comply with road traffic legislation and ensure that passengers are carried in a safe and comfortable manner.
  1. To ensure that the minibuses are at all times kept in a clean and safe condition and have regular maintenance checks as defined by the CCVS Area Transport Supervisor.
  1. To work closely and in co-operation with the other drivers to ensure the smooth running of the Schemes and to ensure continuous cover for the minibus service.
  1. To keep accurate records of all journeys ie. Mileage, fares, expenses etc.
  1. Carry out daily pre and post journey vehicle safety checks, adhering to training instructions and in accordance with CCVS’s policies, procedures and training.
  1. Ensure that all vehicle faults and defects are recorded using CCVS’s vehicle defect report forms, and brought to the BDM’s attention, so that remedial action can be taken. Record any accidents/incidents on the form provided following the correct procedure in place.
  1. Take vehicles to and from garages for service, repair, etc as directed by the Area Supervisor
  1. Maintain a good understanding of the Highway Code and relevant legislation such as speed limits relating to mini-buses, appropriate Construction & Use Regulations, seat belt laws and “Blue Badge” regulations. If in doubt, ask.
  1. Remove and replace mini-bus seats in CCVS Transport Community’s fleet as and when necessary, checking that all seats are securely replaced and safe for passengers to travel.
  1. Be aware of and adhere to CCVS Community Transport’s Codes of Practice for the safe use of vehicle tail lifts and passenger wheelchair clamping.
  1. Supervise team of drivers and volunteer drivers, including production and issue of trip sheets where necessary and providing first line response to general queries.
  1. Maintain control of cash and valuables, operating within laid down procedures.
  1. When not engaged in driving owing to cancellations, vehicle breakdown, extreme weather conditions, etc., you will be required to carry out other duties as directed by the Area Supervisor, including the cleaning of any vehicle, inside and outside.
  1. Drivers are expected to take care of their vehicle and drive in a manner that avoids accidents/injury or damage to CCVS’s reputation. In the event that you are responsible for an accident/incident, an investigation will be carried out that may result in disciplinary action being taken against you.
  1. Drivers are expected to liaise with Transport Schedulers and customers.

General

  1. To ensure that CCVS’ Diversity and Equal Opportunities and Quality Assurance Policies are followed in all areas of work of CCVS.
  1. To attend as appropriate, and participate in, internal meetings of the organisation, including, but not limited to, staff meetings, board meetings, the Annual General Meeting and Away Days promoting staff professional development and awareness.

  1. To comply with the internal and external monitoring and recording requirements of the organisation for accountability purposes.
  1. To provide local intelligence and knowledge to the organisation, galvanising communication throughout, which would usefully inform discussions and decision making.
  1. Assist with co-ordinating and attend community events during the year.
  1. Contribute to marketing CCVS services including but not limited to social media, website, newsletters, leaflets, presentations and any other marketing tool including monthly funding inserts.
  1. To pursue and undertake any training and personal development of skills necessary for the effective performance of your role, as agreed with your line manager, maintaining your training record in conjunction with Support & Supervision.
  1. To ensure all information (including the shared drive) is kept confidential, in appropriate files, up to date and accurate.
  1. To carry out other duties in line with the above primary duties, which are held to be within the scope of this post.
  1. To adhere to all CCVS policies & procedures including but not limited to health & safety, quality assurance and fire safety.
  1. To ensure that all services are provided in line with all CCVS policies and delivery plans.
  1. To take ownership and responsibility of communication both internally externally ensuring the sharing of appropriate information where necessary. Continuously explore effective ways of working within the CCVS Team.
  1. From time to time you may be required to work unsocial hours (evenings and week-ends) for which time off in lieu (TOIL) will be given
  1. The job role may require at times, travel across Essex, the region and nationally.
