COL CARL F. BASWELL COMBAT WOUNDED ENGINEER SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

1.  GENERAL: This academic scholarship program is a soldier level program for Combat Wounded Engineer MOS soldiers who were awarded the Purple Heart during Operation Iraq Freedom or Operation Enduring Freedom. It is financially supported by the donation of Colonel (Retired) Carl F. Baswell. From 2010 – 2020, a $2500 scholarship will be made available each year to an eligible applicant.

2. APPLICABILITY:

a. Scholarships are offered only to Combat Wounded Engineer MOS soldiers who were awarded the Purple Heart during Operation Iraq Freedom or Operation Enduring Freedom.

c. Awards will be based primarily upon financial need of the applicant coupled with potential for academic success and

documented personal character and conduct as supported by personal references. Equal opportunity is applied to each applicant during the selection process.

3. RESTRICTIONS AND CONDITIONS:

a. Scholarship funds provided will be used only for tuition and/or book fees associated with courses taken at an accredited college or university. These courses must be taken in conjunction with a higher level degree producing program that can eventually result in an Associates, Bachelors or Masters Degree.

b. Individuals meeting the criteria of paragraph 2 may apply for only once. There are no provisions for more than one award to a single individual during either the current year, or following years.

4. PROCEDURES:

a. Applications for the AEA Combat Wounded Engineer Scholarship will be submitted to the Executive Office of the AEA using this AEA Form 3. Forms must be submitted for consideration to arrive no later than 30 June.

b. Upon receipt, applications will be presented to a review and selection committee.

c. The selection committee will meet during the month of July with announcement of award recipients before the end August. The AEA will notify each recipient and non-recipient by letter as to the status of their application.

d. The award recipient will receive a check made payable to the individual and the academic institution.

e. Time limit for use of funds is two years. Award recipients must provide documentation from the academic institution to support AEA reimbursement. In no case will funds be provided directly to the award individual without proper documentation supporting reimbursement of funds already expended by that individual.
