Job purpose
The postholder is responsible for the preparation of outdoor sports facilities for sports fixtures. The post has hands - on involvement in the development and upkeep of the sports facilities and is mainly based at the main campus, though on occasions there will be a need to work off campus at any other properties managed by the University of Bath.

Landscape Manager and the Sports Foreperson.

There are no staff reporting to this position.
Special conditions
The post holder will be required to take part in the call-out arrangements for footpath, road salting and snow clearing during the winter months.
Regular weekend overtime is on a rota system and is part of the requirement for the preparation of sports pitches.
A uniform, and protective clothing and footwear will be provided and must be worn, personal protective equipment and training will be provided as appropriate to the post
Due to the nature of the work you will need to be able to lift and carry a reasonable amount of weight and you will be required to work out doors throughout the year.
A full driving licence and experience is required to operate horticultural machinery for all aspects of sports pitches maintenance for example
-Tractors (with trailers including gritting machine)
-Top Dressing Machines
-Aeration Machines
-Overseeding and Fertilising Machines
Hours of work: 36.5 hours per week Monday to Thursday 08:00 hours to 16.15, Friday 08.00hours to 15.15 The post holder will be required to work 5 days (Monday to Friday). This will include rostered weekends work throughout the year.
Main duties and responsibilities
1 / To carrying out seasonal maintenance of varied grass pitches for examples being – mowing, fertilising, over seeding, topdressing, aeration and line marking.
2 / To be competent in operating horticultural machinery and equipment such as tractors, (with trailers), spiking machine, topdressing and over seeding machine.
3 / To be competent of operating ride on mowers and trailed gang units.
4 / Maintaining artificial sports surfaces, examples being – Sand / Water based Astro pitches, Acrylic and clay tennis courts, Athletic running track and 3G pitch.
5 / To be involvement in all aspects of seasonal maintenance for Cricket, Football and Rugby pitches for all University manage premises throughout the year.
6 / To ensure all machinery is used in accordance with manufacturer’s recommendations and is appropriately cleaned after use.
7 / To carry out litter picking and clearing up following sporting and other events.
8 / You must have an awareness of Health and Safety issues and a thorough and methodical attitude to work.
9 / You will be required to undertake as required a variety of training as appropriate to the post.
10 / Be familiar with the required care standards regulations governing your post.
11 / Maintain polite and good communication with your colleagues and staff at all times. Answering general enquiries from visitors and giving directions to buildings as required.
12 / To complete paperwork and provide management information as appropriate to the role.
13 / To ensure all COSHH requirements are adhered to whilst carrying out your duties.
14 / Report anything in need of repair or replacement to the appropriate person, e.g. your Sports Ground Foreperson.
15 / You are required to follow all University policies and procedures at all times and take account of University guidance.
You will be encouraged to actively promote energy saving measures to colleagues whilst at the same time minimising your own environmental impact, using resources with minimum waste and increased recycling

Person Specification
Criteria / Essential / DesirableQualifications:
NVQ or City and Guilds level 2 in groundsmanship /
Good level of numeracy and literacy both in spoken and written English language. /
Have a basic level of computer literacy.
Hold Category B Driving License minimum of 1 year experience, i.e. 5000 miles (for insurance purposes) /
Experience and Knowledge:
Understanding of basic Health and Safety and COSHH requirements commensurate to the post /
Previously worked in a physically demanding position and able to demonstrate a reasonable level of fitness. /
Skills:
Experience in a similar role and to have the knowledge and experience in operating Horticultural machinery examples being tractors, trailers, topdressing, aeration, over seeding and fertilising machines. /
Attributes:
Good customer service skills and ability to communicate with staff, students and visitors at all levels. /
Demonstrate the ability to be flexible in working alone and on own initiative as well as integrate within a team. /
Show a willingness and enthusiasm to add value to the operation.
Smart appearance - a uniform and safety shoes will be provided and must be worn. /
Able to work additional hours when required /
