CoCST Meeting October 2, 2013 MINUTES

5:30 pm Meeting held at Yogi’s, Crowne Plaza, 390 Forsgate Dr, Monroe Township, NJ 08831 Exit 8A Jamesburg/Cranbury off Turnpike

In attendance: Speech-Language Specialists - Sue Goldman (host), Marion Glantz, Ruth Blackman

Psychologists – Sol Heckleman, Josephine Jansen

Social Workers – JoAnn Jackson

CoCST Position Statement of 2004

  • Sue to email a copy of position statement to each representative:

Psych – Josephine, SW-JoAnn, LDTC-Janet, SLS-Ruth

  • Each group to review and revise their sections regarding goals and functions of the group by next meeting
  • CoCST PURPOSE will be addressed in a future meeting. Specifically, attention to professional issues as they develop, advocacy, testimony, membership drive. Bring ideas to next meeting.
  • We need a uniform description of our role (CoCST) of why we exist.
  • Ruth will email NJASLS 2013 membership drive newsletter to attendees to use as a basis for each group’s own membership drives
  • If sending out a membership drive newsletter, hit them with a statement such as

Are you worried about SGOs? Are you worried about privatization?

This year our goal is to be proactive!

  • We need to attract members to the CoCST by attracting members to our own Associations.

RTI (Response to Intervention): Are CST members getting involved?

  • These citations are for Specific Learning Disabilities (SLD) only. They are not mandated for other classifications.

  • Need to let teachers know what we do. Get involved with in-class services. Provide resources.
  • We need to be involved and proactive.

Teacher Evaluation Systems & SGOs (Student Growth Objectives)

ALL GROUPS NEED TO GATHER INFORMATION REGARDING:

  • Teacher Evaluation Systems: What are your districts using for specialists?
  • SGOs: Please gather info from each group. What are your districts doing for SGOs for your discipline?
  • Please bring information to next meeting or email Sue and Ruth at

  • No more for SLSs, they continue for LDTC, School Psychologist, and School Social Worker

  • Emergency certifications for LDTC, School Psychologist, and School Social Worker which are not allowed in IDEA…any plan of action?
  • SGOs - what should they consist of for special ed certs?
