COC Anthropology 101 – Spring 2010 Extra Credit Opportunities
You may do ONE extra credit assignment from list A and ONE from list B.
(up to 15 points each)
A. Film Report
The film report should be 2 pages (this means to the bottom of the second page not the top of the second page) in 12 point font with 1" margins on all sides. You are to watch a movie or television program listed below. (If you do not have cable, many of the television programs are available on the channel's website)
When writing the summary of the film, also look for the following things:
• What location(s) is featured in the film?
• What aspects of the physical anthropology are found in this film?
• What new information was discovered?
• Include a review of the film/program; did you like it, why did I assign this for this class, would you recommend it to other students? Friends?
Film List: (these are available from video stores or Netflix, or may be television at intermittent times. You must re-watch the film if you have already seen it. You will be viewing it in light of the topics discussed in this class and will have a different appreciation of the film.)

B. Hominid Evolution Project
- Construct an evolutionary tree that you believe is correct that includes the species of Australopithecines and the genus Homo that are mentioned in your textbook. You will need to justify in a narrative format why you believe that this is the correct lineage that leads to modern humans. (Tree drawn out and at least 1 page of narrative)
- Research and discuss the issues surrounding Homo floresiensis. What impact does this find have to the overall evolutionary picture? How does the physical characteristics of this species line up with other members of the genus Homo? (2 full pages)
- Compare and contrast the stone tool industries of the genus Homo. Be sure to include the species associated with them and how they changed physiologically that led them to make more refined tools.
