Minutes: Coalition for Eco-Recreation Saturday October 1, 2005 11:00 a.m.

Attendees Present: Phil Keyes, Mel Karau, Terri Lazar, Marti Daltry, Peter Newman, Marilyn Troxel, Paula Renfroe, Sam Renfro, Linda Mattos, Mary Rawl, Nikki Yeager, John Capece, Margaret England

Minutes last meeting: Approved as presented

Reports and Old Business:

Rotary Update: Mel Karau reported that wooden fence needs weed removal. Mel has discussed park benches with Phil Pelletier including benches. Other suggested projects were a fitness trail and new signs.

Closing/Opening Times Sign: Mel Karau will speak to the City of LaBelle about sign that will comply with new sign ordinance.

Website and Group Mail: John Capece will send link and establish e-mails for anyone interested in receiving Coalition e-mails. He also reported that one his interns will revise the NRCS concept drawings for park buildings and dock area.

Contact Caloosa Baptist: John Capece and Margaret England will contact church and Fred Burson of Weatherly Realty to establish linkage with developer on west side of park.

Security: John Capece volunteered to investigate security options for the park which would include cameras and motion sensors.

Neighborhood Watch: Margaret England volunteered to contact the Hendry County Sheriff’s office about establishing a neighborhood watch.

Volunteer Opportunities:

“Get Up, Get Out, Get Active in the Heart of LaBelle” Nov. 19th

9a.m. – noon Saturday Nov. 19th at Park 9a.m. - noon. Volunteers will lead groups on Nature Park trails. A trail map will be made for the event.

Historical Society will lead LaBelle Historical Walk at Nov, 19th event.

Haunted Walk October 28 and 29

Sam and Paula Renfro reported on the Haunted Walk to be held in the Nature Park on October 28 and 29. This event will be sponsored by the VFW and interested community members. Volunteers are needed.

Hendry County Courthouse Display

Contact Terri Lazar if you organization would volunteer to furnish a display for one month for the display case at the Hendry County Courthouse.

Mission/ Vision Statement: tabled

Resources for Grants were discussed. Possible contacts were Southwest Florida Foundation, Florida Power and Light. and the Hendry County Tourism Council.
