Aboitiz & Company, Inc. is the private holding company of the majority Filipino-owned Aboitiz Group. On February 4, 1920, Aboitiz Y Compania was incorporated, and in 1935 officially became Aboitiz & Company. Today, it is one of the Philippines' most diversified management investment companies with business interests spanning various industries: power, banking, food, transportation and logistics, real estate development, industrial production, construction and industrial trading.
Nomination Project:
The Coalition for Better Education (CBE) is a multi-sectoral, citizen’s initiative that aims in addressing the declining and deteriorating state of the Philippine Educational system. With its vision of being the Catalyst for Responsive Education, CBE addresses the following focus areas: Curriculum Development. Teacher Training and Development, Academe-Industry Government Tie-up, Educational Community (Parent-Teacher Council and Student Development), and Leadership and Governance.
The organization has a base of 128 members composed of education practitioners, education and training providers, businessmen, non-government institutions, government agencies, especially, CHED, DEPED, and TESDA. Since its inception in 2001, the Coalition for Better Education has undertaken various education-related projects through committee effort and consensus building, most notable are:
1. Computer literacy program for 25 selected secondary school teachers in Cebu City;
2. Values integration through seminar on 7 Habits for Highly Effective People;
3. Linkages and Lobbying activities – CBE has made various presentations to key government people for educational reforms thereby creating awareness to the public on the state of education.
4. Research and Development activities – CBE has conducted a study on the Philippine High School curriculum of Cebu city which aimed at probing the relevance & application of secondary curriculum vis-à-vis to the needs of the community & industry.
5. Responsible Parenthood Program – seminars and programs for responsible parenthood were conducted in the past year which benefited parents coming from both private and public schools.
The conduct of activities within the CBE framework has allowed a closer look coordinating relationship among education stakeholders that emphasize on coalition building as a mechanism for achieving end results. As such, programs initiated enjoyed very high success rates and objectives set were realized using resource pooling as a technique.
