Coal Chain Manager

An opportunity has arisen at the Shenhua Watermark Officefor a full-time position as Coal Chain Manager to be based in Gunnedah in north-west New South Wales. This position isprimarily located in Gunnedah.

The position holder manages the Transport Department and a all matters relating to the coal chain infrastructure from the mine to ship loading. This includes establishing and implementing strategies to ensure that the Shenhua Watermark has adequate rail and port capacity for the life of the mine.A short-term critical responsibility is to significantly mitigate the company’s liabilities prior to the commencement of operations.

The position will promote the company and the project and lead the negotiation, establishment and administering contracts with port and rail authorities and ensure adequate communications between the Hunter Valley Coal Chain and transport companies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage negotiation with port authorities and other coal producers in the coal chain.
  • Provide effective strategy planning to ensure that the coal transport infrastructure is adequate for the Watermark Project.
  • Represent Shenhua’s interests on industry and government committees involved in the Hunter Valley Coal Chain (HVCC) to ensure the Watermark Project objectives are met.
  • Negotiation of port access contracts to maximise the benefit to the Company and minimise capital expenditures and the likelihood of penalties and demurrage.
  • Negotiation of rail access contracts to maximise the benefit to the Company and minimise capital expenditures and the likelihood of penalties and demurrage.
  • Plan, organise and report to management on transport operations in a manner that ensures future opportunities and threats can be capitalised upon to the Company’s benefit and to ensure future Company needs are met.
  • Operational negotiation with rail and port operators to meet the mine’s operational situations and schedules to minimise and adverse impacts and to the maximum advantage of the Company.
  • Liaison with marketing staff to ensure product quality and transport logistics meet or exceed customer requirements.

Your skills, knowledge and experience:

  • Superb negotiation capability and a very extensive contact network amongst the Hunter Valley Coal Chain participants.
  • Excellent communication both verbally and in writing.
  • High level analysis and problem solving capability in the contract and commercial arenas.
  • Be highly disciplined and focused on strategic objectives on behalf of the company.
  • Bachelor Degree in Business or related discipline, usually Commerce or Marketing.
  • Candidates must demonstrated 10 years plus experience in either or both the Port or Rail within the Hunter Valley Coal Chain and show a proven high level of integrity.
