Violinist Chad Hoopes, age 13, has appeared as a soloist and performed with several orchestras, including the Cleveland Orchestra, Cleveland Pops Orchestra, South Dakota Symphony Orchestra, the Minnesota Sinfonia Orchestra, the Bloomington Minnesota Symphony, the Hilton Head Youth Orchestra, the Firelands Symphony in Ohio, and the Erie Pennsylvania Philharmonic Orchestra. Chad has been heard live on WCLV 104.9 FM radio in Ohio. In June 2007 Chad performed with his violin in a television commercial for the Cleveland Indians produced by SportsTime Ohio, which aired on NBC, SportsTime Ohio Network and Time Warner National Cable Network / ESPN.
Chad currently studies with David Cerone, President of the Cleveland Institute of Music and David Russell. Chad began his study of the violin at age four in Minneapolis with Nancy Lokken and continued with Sally O'Reilly at the University of Minnesota. As a student at the ENCORE School for Strings for the past four summers Chad has studied with David Cerone, Linda Cerone, and David Russell. At ENCORE Chad has performed eight solo events. For the past five summers Chad has studied with Brian Lewis, Associate Professor of Violin at the University of Texas at Austin. Chad has performed in master classes for David and Linda Cerone, Catherine Cho, Stephen Clapp, Doris Preucil, Paul Kantor, David Updegraff, and last Spring with Pinchas Zukerman.
During Chad's career he has won various state and scholarship competitions, invitations to festivals, and guest solo recitals. In 2006 Chad performed by invitation for the Bermuda Conservatory of Music. In 2007 Chad won the Cleveland Alumnae International Music Fraternity competition. Also in 2007 Chad was invited by the Governor and First Lady of Ohio to perform at the Ohio Governor's Mansion in Columbus. In December 2007 Chad performed on "From The Top," a nationally broadcast radio program.
Chad is a member of the Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra at Severance Hall. He also currently studies in a trio with his two sisters coached by Annie Fullard, first violin of the Cavani String Quartet. Other accomplishments in 2007 include advancing to the rank of Life Scout with the Boy Scouts of America.
