ANDREW & PAULINA COX
In training with CMS for ministry in South America
Andrew grew up in rural Australia as the son of a lay-pastor before attending university in NSW. As a student, he became active in the Evangelical Christian Group on the campus as well as in teaching in the Sunday School of his church and taking part in a Scripture Union Family Mission.
Andrew’s interest in cross-cultural ministry led him to offer to work in Cochabamba, Chile as a two-year short term missionary. He learnt Spanish, taught in a school and became involved university student ministry. He returned to Australia to prepare for long-term missionary service, entering Moore College, initially to complete a one year Bible & Mission program, but deciding to complete the full four year, B.Th. course.
During the 2005-6 Moore College summer vacation, Andrew went to Bolivia to meet contacts there and then to Chile to have a translation of some gospel material checked. It was in Chile that he met and fell in love with Paulina Royo.
Paulina is Chilean and a skilled Bible teacher, having studied the Moore College Theological Certificate course with Australian missionaries. After spending a year in volunteer ministry in England, Paulina returned to Chile to complete the two year Bible course at the Centre for Pastoral Studies [CEP] in Santiago. She then tutored in Greek and worked as an academic assistant and administration secretary at CEP. In 2006, she moved to Australia to marry Andrew.
Paulina has had experience in youth leadership and teaching the Moore College Theological Certificate courses, and has helped establish a small-group ministry in her church in Santiago. She has also worked as a full time translator of theological literature and teaching materials. She is now a full-time mother of Lily Ariela who was born on 22 August, 2008.
This year Andrew, Paulina and Lily will be resident at St. Andrew’s Hall, Parkville [Melbourne] to prepare for long-term service as CMS missionaries. They are keen to work with the Anglican church of Bolivia to train leaders and to work with university students and graduates.
Please pray for them in this year of preparation that they will be ready to build up the church in Bolivia in the faith of Christ.
