CMHA Meeting Sept 7, 2016 ~ Canora Skating Rink

Members Present: Kelly Beblow, Kent Gress, Cindy Sznerch, Michelle Hembling, Genevieve Shukin, Kelly Strelioff, & Tracey Heshka (Trip of Month). Regrets: Jennifer Sleeva & Dean Wilgosh

1)Call to order at 7:34 pm

2)Minutes read by Kelly S from Spring AGM. Kelly B made motion to adopt and Kent G seconded.

3)Motion to adopt agenda by Genevieve and seconded by Michelle

4)Treasurer Report~ Michelle Hembling:

  1. Balance of $ 19, 475.59 (copy attached). (Waiting for cheque $70 to be cashed). Note: Balance is up approx $2000 from last year. Received $2500 SK Lotteries grant this year as well.
  1. No advertising monies to come from signage in Rink as this year goes to Skating Club (will alternate yearly).

5)Trip of Month Report ~ Tracey Heshka:

  1. Balance of $24,000 with 2 prizes left for Sept & Oct, which will leave account at approx $20,000.
  2. The Trip is drawn on the 1st Friday of the Month at the Credit Union @ 3pm and winners are posted on CMHA website as soon as possible (ie) winners have to be contacted first, etc.
  3. Discussion of putting portion of funds into an account which will gain interest. Michelle will look into same at Credit Union – can follow up on again at subsequent meetings.
  4. Plan is to sell 350 tickets – with the increase of selling 50 more tickets last year, club made profit of $6,000. Tickets to come likely in early December.
  5. 3 positions for Committee to be up for Nomination at AGM – Tracey will be stepping down as Treasurer and Amanda Zuravloff and Meridee Kopelchuk will also be done term.

6)Registrar Report ~ Cindy Sznerch:

  1. Numbers as follows so far:
  2. IP ~ 18
  3. Novice ~ 19
  4. Atom ~ 20
  5. Pee Wee ~ 9-10
  6. Bantam ~ 6
  1. May have to depend upon AP players, especially for PeeWee level. Will register whole team as available for AP as per SHA regulations. More to follow at future meeting but will need to reinforce importance of AP player always commiting to own games & practices.

7)Fees ~ Motion made by Kent that CMHA fees will stay the same for 2016-2017 Season. Motion seconded by Cindy.

8)Coaches ~ discussion of possible people who have shown interest. Resumes to be forwarded to Kelly Beblow with Coach putting qualifications and also what level they would like to coach.

9)Mass Registration

  1. Town’s Mass Registration tomorrow night at Curling Rink. Cindy & Michelle will represent CMHA.
  2. Social Media form – good for 5 years. Michelle will forward copy to Genevieve so same can be added to website.
  3. Kelly S has developed a ‘Welcome to Hockey letter ~ suggestions/edits made. Cindy S will print copies to have available for tomorrow to give to parents.

10)AGM – set for Sept 14th @ 7 pm at the Skating Rink. Plan was to wait until Mass Registration complete as to attract new families to meeting. Agenda topics for AGM:

  1. Treasurer Report – Michelle will have copies to circulate.
  1. Nominations ~ Available positions:
  2. Treasurer
  3. Secretary
  4. Vice President (Dean has agreed to stay on, but will see if any interest expressed at AGM
  5. Referee in Chief
  6. Trip of the Month: Treasuer & 2 committee positions
  1. Reffing clinics ~ Kent Gress has 2016 South Clinic Dates per SHA.
  1. This year Reffing Clinic to be held in Kamsack at Kamsack Comprehensive Institute on Sat. Oct 29/16 from 1-5 pm.
  2. Cost $80 for Registered player and $120 for non-registered.
  3. Clinic for skaters 10 years and up.
  4. Motion made by Genevieve to have Non-Registered members have their registration fee covered as in past these players have served CMHA. Kelly S. seconded.
  1. Power Skating
  1. Leona Kitchen has agreed to do Power Skating Course (Ice) again, however Curtis Bailee unable to do dry land training as he did last year. Leona will know more details for AGM. Details of dates/times to be announced when available, hoping for last 2 weeks of Oct.
  2. Fee last year was $100 – because only ice course available, motion made by Genvieve to have fee at $50. Kelly B. seconded.
  3. Power Skating available for Novice, Atom & PeeWee.
  1. Resumes/Criminal Record Check
  2. As above, Resumes due by Sept 23/16 – need for same in case several individuals want same position – look at qualifications.
  3. Criminal Record Check – good for 5 years. Executive does not require a copy to keep on hand – same just needs to be viewed.
  1. “Respect in Sport” – strongly encouraged for all families to take – link on CMHA website.
  1. Late Fees –
  1. Registration cheques may be post-dated up to October 31st. Registrations received after October 1st will have a $100 late fee. Registrations received after October 15th will not be accepted by CMHA unless approved by the Board.
  1. Trip of Month
  2. Will draw for September trip.
  1. Concessions ~ All will get sent to League for approval. Deadline for concessions is Sept 25th.

11)New Business

  1. Cross Ice – as per SHA regulations (IP level).
  2. Kent made motion to purchase foam dividers for ice – Kelly B seconded motion. Approx cost $2,000 - $3,000.
  3. Cindy will look into ordering same & will also talk to Aaron (Leisure Services) re storage, etc.
  1. Equipment & Pucks – need more pucks for practises – Genevieve will check with Pioneer (Rob Bletsky) & Richardson Pioneer. All inventory for teams went through by Managers last year.
  1. Time cards – have been ordered & coming soon (Ref cards).
  1. SHA Fall Meeting – Oct 2/16 in Yorkton – Kelly B plans to attend.
