Due to Conditions Resulting from Snow & Other Weather Events

Closure Policy: Operational Process - 2016

Decision makers

·  Primary: Fr. Ed

·  Secondary: (collaboratively) Craig Nelson and Kim Anderson

·  Auxiliary: Kent School District decision (use for general guidance)

o  School “two hour delay” during weekdays will signal delay in opening campus facilities and offices

Full Closure (resulting from weather conditions) -- no vehicular access (assumes building served by power and heat )

·  Mass will be celebrated on campus (access by foot, only)

·  All classes, social events and other activities will be cancelled

o  Daytime closures applies to that evening as well, regardless of any mid-day improvement in weather

·  All services closed (office operations, food bank, etc.)

Partial Closure / Impaired Operations

·  Vehicular access limited (east gate only, two way traffic, cones block access to south parking lot)

o  Entrance driveway gates CLOSED, cones and signage to discourage “pull-ins”

·  Weekday Masses will be celebrated

·  Parish offices will operate with minimal staff

·  Food bank and direct aid services open

Communications of the decision

·  phone tree / email tree

·  Phone system – posting of closure announcement (Betty Mencke, Debbie Blomquist and/or Jim Spencer)

Response to weather-related conditions

·  Personal safety considerations are paramount. Staff and volunteers are to first consider their ability to safely travel before attempting to travel to the St. Stephens campus

·  Power outage: notes for those in building,

o  alarms will sound at exit doors until batteries are exhausted – no response necessary

o  phone system – short battery life so minimize use

o  computer network – service to PDS programs and internet will stop, alarms will sound in Eric’s and Marshall’s offices

o  Surveillance system – will record until batteries exhausted

Response to weather-related conditions (continued from front)

·  Snow and Ice – response by Thursday Crew members, ushers, Mike Kim

o  Weekends –

§  Main (west) stairway and upper plaza, east Narthex, lower plaza --

·  attempt to keep areas totally clear, spread deicer

·  put out signage caution for slippery areas

§  Driveways and parking areas

·  clear traffic flow routes,

·  spread sand on hill near outreach annex, near base of main stairway and other spots where foot traffic flows are likely to pound snow into ice, and any other slippery areas.

·  parking space clearing is lowest priority

o  Weekdays –

§  Main (west) stairway and upper plaza, east Narthex, lower plaza --

·  attempt to keep pathways open, spread deicer

·  put out signage caution for slippery areas

§  Driveways and parking areas

·  attempt to clear traffic flow routes

Note: Achieving the above for our campus may be problematic. Efforts for snow clearing are reliant upon volunteers, who are encouraged to keep their personal safety and homes as first priority.
