The Program for Faculty Development (PFD) is pleased to announce its
CLINICAL TEACHING FUNDAMENTALS (E-Learning course)
Based on feedback received from participants attending our regular Teaching & Learning in the Clinical Setting Workshop series, this online opportunity has been developed by experienced clinical educators in the Faculty of Health Sciences at McMaster University to meet the needs of individuals teaching in a clinical setting. This course invites you to examine the fundamentals of clinical teaching by engaging in interactive activities and discussing topics with others.
Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this e-learning course, participants will be able to:
- Describe effective clinical teaching characteristics
- Engage in dialogue pertaining to the topics of learning preferences, styles and
learning climate
- Outline the principles of assessment and effective feedback
- Self-assess their strengths and areas requiring development as a clinical teacher
- Describe policies and procedures to ensure professional behavior
- Demonstrate awareness of Interprofessional collaboration
Course Schedule
The course is delivered in seven modules over a three week period. (late Feb 2012). You should plan on setting aside 10 hours over a three week period for the completion of the course. Each module will take approximately 20 – 30 minutes online followed by optional discussion activities. You can login anytime during the week, on the dates indicated below.

Technical Requirements:
Modules are designed for participants with basic computer skills and are delivered online via Avenue to Learn (A2L) accessed via a MacID and password.
For you to get the most of our online course, we recommend the following hardware and software:

- Internet access – a broadband internet connection is recommended for audio and video components

Completion Certificate and Pathways Credit hrs.
Upon completion of the course, a certificate will be emailed to you for your records. You will receive 10 BEST hrs. of Program for Faculty Development (PFD) Pathways credit hours.
