Program: A pool of monies has been established and is available toAuxiliary and Regular Clinical faculty members to apply toregarding “freeing” them from selected responsibilities and/or securing necessary resourcesto allow the means to pursue a scholarly project.To secure financial support from this source, it is necessary to submit aformal proposal to the Department’s Academic Management Committeeincluding the proposed product, a projected timeline, level of requested financial support, and a likely public document and/or professional presentation to further communicate regarding your project and success.Recommendations will be made to Executive Committee regarding the proposal for a final decision.

  • Product:Defined as: 1) grant application, 2) manuscript related to journal article, book, book chapter, or monograph, 3) educational program or initiative predicted to “drive” students to family medicine, prepare more competent residents, or enhance practitioners’ knowledge and skill bases, and 4) service projects that impact the community defined narrowly or broadly. Regardless of choice of product, a faculty member’s proposed project must also include as an outcome a public document and/or professional presentation.
  • Pool of Money:A pool of monies will be made available to and will be accessible only by Auxiliary and Regular Clinical faculty members for the purpose of “freeing” them from existing responsibilities in order to pursue a formally proposed scholarly project.
  • Sources of Funds: There are presently several sources that will fund the pool of monies:

RVU-Based − Any future increases in RVU reimbursement that the Medical Center provides the Department will be carved out in relation to $0.10 of the increase for Level 1 salaries, $0.20 for Level 2 salaries, and $0.30 for Level 3 salaries.

PQRI Payment − As FMF, LLC receives monies from the federal government per PQRI payments, such monies will be placed in the pool of monies at a rate of 70% of PQRI payment to pool and 30% of PQRI payment to physicians.

Development Funds −Monies will be sought in traditional ways to support a Development Fund account for the purpose of contributing all or part to the pool of monies. Additionally, departmental faculty are encouraged to contribute from bonus monies at the end of the fiscal year if they so chose.

Chair’s Discretionary Fund−Can be tapped as a given Chair might choose to contribute to the pool of monies.

Interest−Interest earned from investment(s) of reserves can be a source for the pool of monies.

Industry-Sponsored Research −Monies that accrue to the Department per ongoing industry-sponsored research projects can be a source for the pool of monies.
