Hampton Parish Council has served the Hampton Hargate and Hampton Vale areas of the Peterborough City Council Unitary Authority for the last seven years.
The Parish Council with a precept of just under £100k is seeking applications for the position of Parish Clerk due to resignation.
Hampton is a thriving area of South Peterborough with around 4000 dwellings and just over 10,000 residents.
Hampton Parish Council deliver allotments via the Hargate & Vale community associations and also employ via Amey two Lengthsmen.
Clerk to the Council & Responsible Financial Officer (RFO)
The successful candidate will be expected to carry out all the functions and to serve or issue the notifications required by law of being the local authority's Proper Officer. The Parish Clerk is responsible for day-to-day management of the Parish office. You will have excellent management and leadership skills enabling you to work in partnership with councillors, the local community, external partners and stakeholders. This post requires candidates to have an excellent track record in administration, financial accounting procedures, policy, project management, event management, communication and strategic thinking. Experience of local government and/or town and parish council work is desirable, as is experience of monitoring budgets, preparing financial statements, experience of using SAGE Accounts or similar and excellent computer and website management skills.
The successful candidate will work from the Hampton Parish Office at Hampton Vale Community Centre. Attendance at evening meetings will be required, along with bespoke meetings with other stakeholders as required. You will also be contracted to undergo training at the council’s expense and will be expected to continue to attend agreed training courses throughout their employment.
Applications are invited for this position from suitably qualified persons who already hold the Certificate in Local Council Administration (CiLCA) or whom the Parish Council would expect to achieve this qualification within 12 months of commencing employment.
Essential Criteria: (Taken from Person Specification)
3 x GCSE’s including Maths/English at Grade B or equivalent
Experience – Use of Financial accounting software e.g. SAGE or equivalent & dealing with the Public.
Skills / Knowledge - Computer Literate including knowledge of MS Office products

Motivation - To Maintain good working relationships with councillors and stakeholders.
Salary – (NJC) LC2 Scale points 26-29 dependent upon qualifications & experience (£23,398-£25,952 pro rata)
Commencing at £12.16 per hour with increments as per the contract of employment and subject to a 6 month probationary period and annual appraisals.
Hours – up to full time considered.
Office hours – Up to full time hours over 5 days. Other options considered.
