Order Full Patent FS Doc. No. PS1002

Cleansing compositions suitable for use in personal cleansing applications, and in particular make-up removal applications, which not only impart superior cleansing properties, but also which are relatively non-irritating and thus suitable for use by people having sensitive skin and eyes comprised of esters, liquid silicones, and a water dispersible components. Also disclosed are compositions for effectively depositing various benefit agents into and onto the skin.

Preparation of Oil in Water Emulsion Incorporating a Polymeric Emulsifier. This patent includes 21 well explained formulation examples.
EXAMPLE

A composition was prepared as follows:

Item / Grams / Ingredient, Supplier, Trade Name
Lipophilic Phase:
1 / 11 / Of PEG-30 dipolyhydroxystearate, available from Uniqema, Inc. under the tradename Arlacel P-135
2 / 50 / Of isononyl isononanoate, available from Alzo, Inc. under the tradename, Wickenol 151
3 / 50 / Of a mixture of hexyldecyl benzoate and butyloctyl benzoate, available from C.P. Hall Company under the tradename, Hallstar AB
4 / 50 / Cyclomethicone available from Dow Corning under the tradename, Dow 344 Fluid
Hydrophilic Phase
5 / 795 / Deionized water
6 / 5 / PEG-8 caprylic/capric glycerides available from Trivent Inc. under the tradename, Trivasol BW
7 / 4 / Carbomer available from B.F. Goodrich, Inc. under the tradename, Carbopol Ultrez
8 / 30 / Dimethylisosorbide available from Uniqema, Inc. under the tradename, Arlasolve DMI
9 / 2 / Methylparaben
10 / 1 / Propylparaben

Preparation of Lipophilic Phase:

Weigh and combine into a glass beaker containing a propeller stirrer and heated to a temperature of 60oC all lipophilic ingredients. Mix to homogenize for about 30 min.
Preparation of Hydrophillic Phase:

In Beaker1, weigh and combine into a glass beaker containing a propeller stirrer and heated to a temperature of 25oC or room temperature items 5, 6, 7. In Beaker2 with hand stirring disperse item 7, 9 and 10 into item 8. Combine B2 into B1, mix until homogeneous.

The lipophilic phase was then added to the hydrophilic phase with constant stirring at 25oC until homogeneous. 2 g of triethanolamine available from Union Carbide under the tradename, Trolamine 99% was then added to the resulting mixture with stirring until homogeneous. You will note a rapid increase in the viscosity of the formulation.

Laboratory Needs:

Pyrex glass beakers (3), heat insulated gloves, safety goggles, pH indicator paper or probe, spatulas, storage jars, aluminum foil.

Laboratory Equipment: Overhead mechanical agitator with support and fastener, mixing blades to fit inside the diameter of the glass beaker, thermometer and hot plate with temperature control, top load balance with auto calibration and tare.

Warning: Read the material safety data sheets, MSDS, of all formulation ingredients to determine special handling precautions. Prepare this formulation in a well ventilated laboratory:

·  This formulation requires handling heated liquids and severe burning may occur.

·  Do not breath fumes

·  Wear gloves and goggles

·  Propane, butane, isobutane mixtures are extremely volatile and extremely flammable gasses.
