January 16, 2015 No. 05 Clavet School

CLAVET PRE-KINDERGARTEN

The Clavet Pre-Kindergartenprogram for three and four year old children runs Monday to Thursday 9am-12pm.The open house for Pre-Kindergarten for the 2015-2016 school year will be on Thursday April 30thfrom 5pm-8pm. Applications will be available atthe open house or at the office after the open house date. Children must be three years old by September 1st. for the 2015-2016 School Year

Registration is now taking place for any child who will be turning five (5) by December 31, 2015. Please call the Clavet School at 306-933-1022 to enroll your child for the 2015-2016 school year. Registration is important for an accurate class count. Please pass this information on to your neighbours and friends.There will be an open house in the spring, watch upcoming newsletters and/or the website for more information.

PREPARING FOR POST-SECONDARY SCHOOL

Information on career fairs, post-secondary institutions important dates, scholarships, bursaries and student loans are being communicated to the students through parent emails and classroom visits. Career cruising is an on-line software program that assists students in choosing career paths after they have completed the three assessment tools: Career Matchmaker, Skills Inventory, and Learning Styles. Please have your child show you the Career Cruising website as it will provide information on how and where they can follow a career path, earning potential, related fields, etc. If you have any questions, concerns, information or ideas, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Our first week of Work Experience was very successful with students participating in a wide range of career opportunities. Students are expected to have their Journals, Work Experience Reflection, Employer Evaluation and Student Evaluation in by the end of the first semester exams. YEARBOOK SALES

Orders for the2015Yearbooks are now being taken. Yearbooks are $42 and are hardcover, full colour memories of this school year!Why wait for spring? Order now! Order forms will be available at the office or from Mrs. Shabatoski.We still have copies of the 2014 yearbook for $42.00 as well.

SRC–Upcoming Events

The SRC will be participating in Matchmaker's for Valentine’s Day. You can find out who you might be compatible with! Filling out the questionnaire is free and if you'd like to find out who would be your topmatch, you can pay $2 to see the results.

Our Valentine's Dance will be held February 12th from 7-9pm. Tickets are $5 in advance and $7 at the door. Chaperones are needed. If you'd like to volunteer, please contact Mrs. Gavlas -

Jean Drive

We are running a gently used jean drive to helps homeless children in Canada, the school that collects the most jeans will win a $5000 school grant and a performance by “The Vamps”. Contest closes on February 11, 2015

Blades tickets for the game vs the Chiefs on February 10th will be on sale at a reduced price through the school so we can help cheer on one of our former students - Evan F.!!

Hodge Family School Fundraiser

We are having a Ukrainian Hot Lunch for grade 7-12, WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 21. There will be perogies, Ukrainian sausage on a bun, dessert and a drink for $10. Tickets can be purchased from the school main office. Thank you for showing your community support by having your child purchase a hot lunch ticket.

Clavet TaeKwon Do

Courtesy, Integrity, Perseverance, Self-Control and Indomitable Spirit. These are the tenets of TaeKwon Do. We teach, through a martial arts, the balance, strength and concentration needed for confidence and awareness.

There are two classes that are held at Clavet School on Sunday and Thursday nights starting at 6:30pm for kids and adults over the age of 6. If you are interested in learning a martial arts, please come and see our club and try a class. Building Healthy Families - (at John Lake School)Being a parent is a tough job. We get lots of information on how many things impact our children in their healthy growth and development but we don’t usually get a toolkit complete with resources to help us raise healthy, competent, happy, successful children / youth.

Join us to explore a variety of parenting topics such as brain development, influences on our child’s developing personality, skill building, discipline and nurturing, and many more.

Bridging the Gap (For Parents of Out-Of-Control Teens)is an ongoing support group for parents whose adolescent is having severe behaviour and/or relationship problems

Taming the Worry Dragon (For parents and children ages 8 to 12)
This group is designed to support children ages 8 to 12 years of age as they explore their feelings of fear, anxiety, and worry in a supportive environment.

Parents are required to attend the concurrent parenting component.

2014 has been an outstanding year thanks to the ongoing support from Breakfast for Learning.
