POSITION PURPOSE:

This position exists to help ensure that content distributed to internal and external audiences of Bemidji State University and Northwest Technical College via digital communications and marketing channels is accurate, complete, timely, useful and compelling.

The position is responsible for developing, posting, editing and otherwise maintaining digital content on behalf of the BSU-NTC Office of Communications & Marketing (OCM) for the homepages and MyBSU and MyNTC pages of bemidjistate.edu and ntcmn.edu, as well as: other external-facing webpages -- including but not limited to “about” and “student life”-type pages; university-wide events on the schools’ website calendars; upcoming events and other information on outdoor electronic marquees, indoor electronic information screens; one or more monthly electronic newsletters; and electronic distribution of university and college event information to designated community calendars maintained by external organizations and media outlets.

The position also will provide oversight, content-management (e.g. WordPress) training and user support to BSU and/or NTC departments/offices and employees who are charged with maintaining accurate, complete and timely content on their own webpages and posting upcoming events on the university and college website calendars. In this website role, working with BSU-NTC Web Services, the position will maintain search-engine optimization (SEO) tactics on pages managed by the OCM and consulting with other offices and departments to optimize search on their pages. In addition, the position will maintain ongoing measurement of web traffic and navigation on OCM-managed pages and support others in analyzing use of their pages.

The position reports to the Executive Director of Communications & Marketing but will have day-to-day responsibility for managing content and providing website coaching and support as required, working closely with, and under the day-to-day supervision of, the Associate Director of Communications & Marketing and in collaboration with graphic design and photography staff and student workers. Although this position does not include regular responsibility for producing news articles and/or media relations, social media management or preparation of print materials, such duties may be required at times, along with additional duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism, public relations or other related field.
  • At least one full year of professional experience in website content management, which may have been among multiple duties in a broader communications and/or marketing role.
  • Highly organized and skilled in setting and updating priorities and managing time and workload to meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively through speaking and writing, including the ability to write clear, concise and effective text for a variety of audiences with correct spelling, grammar and style usage.
  • Knowledge of and experience using varied desktop, web and mobile software applications, web-based content management systemsand online communications and task-management tools.
  • A demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with colleagues, both in person and via telephone and email.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: (desired but not expected to have to enter job)

  • Experience in communications and marketing for higher education.
  • Experience in obtaining and communicating results from website analytics.
  • Experience in optimizing webpages for search engines.
  • Experience in planning and creating webpages for an organizational website.
  • Experience in providing technical training to individuals and small groups.
  • Experience shooting and editing digital photos and/or video.
  • Experience in using the WordPress content management system.
  • The applicant should demonstrate a knowledge of and interest in diverse cultures and populations.
