Spanish 2 is a continuation of Spanish1. Students will continue to expand and develop vocabulary and grammar in order to become more fluent in the language. Students can expect to concentrate on grammar, vocabulary, customs, culture and history of the Spanish speaking nations as a framework for listening, speaking, reading and writing in Spanish. Every student should practice these skills every day whether or not there is a written homework assignment. Learning a language is similar to learning a musical instrument or sport. Practice is important!

Expectations

1. Every student will follow all school policies and procedures. (Please sign the cheating policy.)

2. Part of your daily grade is as simple as answering roll in Spanish by saying ‘’aqui’’ or ‘’ presente’’ when your Spanish name is called. This means everyone must be quiet in order for us to hear each other.

3. Toca Timbres/Bell ringers are assigned daily and checked weekly.

4. The completion of make up work is YOUR responsibility. In accordance with school policy, all work must be made up within 3 days of an absence or it will become an F.

5. If a student chooses to retake a quiz, an average of the two grades will be recorded. Any retake must be scheduled within one week of the original quiz date. There are no retakes for tests.

6. Bring pens, pencils, paper, etc. to class DAILY. Failure to do this will result in a reduction of participation points for that day.

7. Always show respect. This is crucial in this country as well as a Spanish speaking country. (Don’t touch if it’s not yours. Stay in your own space. ) We will maintain a positive learning environment free of unnecessary distractions. Act like a young adult & you’ll be treated like one.

First 9 weeks ( Review all Spanish speaking countries & capitals, alphabet, greetings, days, months, colors, numbers, seasons, dates, descriptions of people and places, school vocabulary, class subjects, telling time, plurals of nouns, articles, verbs in Present Tense, Learn about telling your age, birthdays, possessive adjectives, housing vocabulary, the verb tener, the verb gustar, the weather)

Second 9 weeks ( Review school supplies, clothing, shopping, adjectives, -ar verbs, contractions, food vocabulary, Learn possessive adjectives, indirect object pronouns, sports vocabulary, body parts vocabulary, stem changing verbs, the difference between ser and estar, the Preterite and Imperfect tenses)

  • For year long Spanish 2, we will modify these categories according to the time allotted.
  • Culture and holidays will be discussed in each chapter.

Make- up Work Policy: Missed quizzes or tests will be recorded as a zero after one week after the student returns to school after an absence. I am available before or after school by appointment for make- up work and extra help.
