CLASS TITLE:SENIOR ACTUARIAL ANALYST

This is independent professional work reviewing, analyzing, and evaluating complex insurance filing data; conducting actuarial studies; evaluating trends, and consulting with management on technology and business operations.

  • Reviews insurance industry rate filings.
  • Monitors actuarial assumptions used by industry.
  • Provides technical advice for projects concerning insurance data.
  • Conducts or executes special projects in behalf of the Department.
  • Prepares records and reports.
  • Responds to inquiries concerning filing data.
  • Directs the work assignments of analysts and administrative personnel.
  • Participates in strategic planning for Department goals.
  • Participates in enterprise projects.

  • Knowledge of actuarial practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of methods of compiling, organizing and analyzing data.
  • Skill in applying actuarial principles and techniques.
  • Ability to interpret and follow insurance regulations and procedures.
  • Ability to review and analyze insurance industry rate filings.
  • Ability to monitor actuarial assumptions.
  • Ability to use computer applications to perform actuarial work.
  • Ability to prepare records and statistical reports.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work activities.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major course of study in mathematics, statistics or insurance and four years of professional experience in compiling and analyzing actuarial or statistical data; or
  • A master's degree from an accredited college or university with major course of study in mathematics, statistics, or insurance and two years of experience as described above; or
  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and completion of 80 credits by the Society of Actuaries exam syllabus or completion of three complete exams by the Casualty Actuarial exam syllabus.
  • Experience as described above may substitute on a year for year basis for the required college education.
