CLASS TITLE:FRUIT AND VEGETABLE REGIONAL ADMINISTRATOR - SES

ALLOCATION FACTOR(S)

This is work assisting in directing all phases of a bureau inspection program. The employee(s) in position(s) allocated to this class exercises (s) independent judgment in formulating or assisting in the formulation of policies and procedures impacting the bureau. These position(s) will spend a major portion of the time communicating with, motivating, training and evaluating employees, planning and directing their work; and having the authority to hire, transfer, suspend, layoff, recall, promote, discharge, assign, reward or discipline subordinate employees or to effectively recommend such actions.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

  • Assists in developing, planning and implementing programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Assists in representing the bureau, division and agency at meetings with federal and state agencies.
  • Assists in assigning and directing field personnel.
  • Assists in coordinating activities with industry and government officials to insure uniform application and interpretation of laws and regulations.
  • Maintains liaison with other divisions, state and federal agencies to assure effective and efficient coordination.
  • Motivates employees to improve the quality and quantity of work performed.
  • Plans work loads, work flows, deadlines, work objectives and time utilization with employees.
  • Evaluates employees through establishing evaluation criteria and responsibilities and meeting regularly with employees to ensure the established criteria are met.
  • Trains employees in methods for performing an effective and efficient job.
  • Communicates on a regular basis with employees both individually and in staff meetings.
  • Directs the work of employees to ensure best use of time and resources.
  • Administers and supervises the inspection of vegetable and fruit products in a number of counties of the state.
  • Contacts owners, agents, and managers of citrus and vegetable packaging, shipping, and cannery organizations on matters pertaining to inspection standards, regulations and procedures.
  • Coordinates, administers and promotes the uniform interpretation of laws and regulations pertaining to fruit and vegetable products.
  • Interviews, selects and provides on-the-job training for inspectors.
  • Keeps inspectors and industry officials informed of all new regulations pertaining to the inspection of fruits and vegetables.
  • Performs related work as required.
