CLASS TITLE:DIRECTOR - CENTER FOR THE BLIND - SES

ALLOCATION FACTOR(S)

This is managerial work directing the programs of the Florida State Center for the Blind. The employee(s) in the position(s) allocated to this class exercise(s) independent judgment in formulating or assisting in the formulation of policies and procedures which have significant impact in personnel administration and/or preparation and administration of budgets.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

  • Directs the activities and programs of the State Center for the Blind.
  • Supervises professional staff, volunteer workers, interns, consultants, work/study students and clients.
  • Establishes policies and procedures to encourage client independence.
  • Promotes client services through other resources and agencies.
  • Establishes contacts with private organizations and facilities to promote placement of clients and promote private services for the blind.
  • Coordinates with other agencies and groups in planning education and rehabilitation programs for the blind.
  • Implements and directs joint service programs with other agencies.
  • Negotiates agreements with other agencies to fund and provide grants to blind clients.
  • Establishes and directs staff training and development programs.
  • Promotes public relations through briefings to staff and visitors; formal presentations to professional and civic groups; information releases to media; and publication and dissemination of promotional materials such as flyers and leaflets.
  • Establishes and interprets policies and procedures.
  • Develops and manages center budgets and fiscal activities.
  • Performs related work as required.

  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of rehabilitation for the blind.

  • Ability to manage a rehabilitation program for the blind.
