CLASS TITLE:COMPUTER OPERATOR II

ALLOCATION FACTOR(S)

This is work in the operation of a central site computer system or remote job entry computer with related peripheral equipment (excluding micro/personal type computers).

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

  • Operates all components of the computer system and peripheral equipment.
  • Assists in the planning of work production for a computer system to ensure a smooth workflow and conformity with standards.
  • Provides assistance and guidance to beginning computer operators.
  • Requests service on equipment as needed.
  • Performs computer equipment cleaning and reports equipment malfunctions.
  • Performs related work as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of basic data processing operations, equipment, procedures and workflow.
  • Knowledge of basic terminology and procedures in the areas of data processing.
  • Skill in operating a variety of data processing equipment.
  • Ability to determine priorities.
  • Ability to interpret and respond to computer error messages.
  • Ability to detect data processing equipment malfunctions.
  • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.
  • Ability to communicate technical data processing information effectively.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • A high school diploma or its equivalent and one year of experience in the operation of a computer (excluding micro/personal type computers) and computer peripheral equipment; or
  • A high school diploma or its equivalent and completion of a program of study from a vocational/technical school or data processing vendor in an area of data processing (excluding data entry) with a minimum of 720 classroom hours.
  • College education from an accredited institution can substitute at the rate of 30 semester or 45 quarter hours for the year of required experience provided such education includes at least four courses in an area of data processing (excluding data entry).
