CLASS TITLE:CLERK TYPIST SPECIALIST

ALLOCATION FACTOR(S)

This is varied work typing correspondence, memoranda, reports, records, orders, forms and other documents from rough drafts, transcribing machines, notes and/or oral instructions. Work may also include performing varied clerical duties that require independent judgment to accomplish.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

  • Transcribes complex and varied medical dictation in many areas of specialty including pediatrics, psychiatry, neurology, cardiology, radiology and dermatology.
  • Composes, types and edits materials from rough drafts, transcription machines or other sources.
  • Proofreads materials for correct spelling, punctuation and grammar usage.
  • Operates and/or utilizes a variety of standard business and office machines and equipment including: typewriters, work processors, transcription equipment, telecommunications terminals, calculators, copiers, etc.
  • Compiles and verifies information.
  • Maintains logs of materials processed.
  • Files and retrieves materials.
  • Reviews typed materials for accuracy, completeness, adequacy and for compliance with established standards and policies.
  • Assists in training typists.
  • Performs related work as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of correct spelling, punctuation and grammar usage.
  • Skill in typing.

  • Ability to type letters, memoranda and other standard business forms in correct format.
  • Ability to operate general office equipment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • One year of secretarial or clerical work experience; or
  • Possession of a Certified Professional Secretary Certificate.
  • Vocation/technical training in an area of secretarial science or office/business studies can substitute at the rate of 720 classroom hours for the required work experience.
  • A high school diploma or its equivalent can substitute for the required work experience.
