Thursday: Panel #1 Leads Discussion.

All Panels will do the following:

1.Choose a topic from the local, national or international news. A different news service will be posted weekly on the web page for your information, but you are free to find your own news sources.

2.Have each person look at a different side of the issue and take notes about it.

3.As a Panel, be prepared to present all of your main points to the class on your assigned day. Use at least two sources from the news to back you up—bring source information to class. This should involve at least 15 minutes.

In other words, Inform the Audience as best as possible about the issue. Assume they know very little about it.

4.Engage the class in the discussion of your topic. The rest of the class should be ready to ask questions.

5.By giving both or more sides to an issue, your point as a Panel is to be as unbiased as possible. This is not a forum for active argument. It is a forum for developing skills as critical thinkers in society.

6.You are welcome to use the computer or other audio-visual equipment to support your points.
