Course Description(taken from the 2006,2007 AP Statistics Course Description, The College Board)

The AP Statistics course is designed for the student who has successfully completed an Algebra 2 course. AP Statistics is equivalent to a one-semester, introductory, non-calculus-based, college course in statistics. In college, a similar introductory statistics course is usually required for majors such as business, social sciences, and health sciences. This course is also considered adequate preparation for an upper level statistics course required in science, engineering, and mathematics majors. After showing themselves qualified in the course and AP exam, students may receive credit for an introductory college statistics course, advanced placement, or both.

Textbooks:

Stats: Modeling the World 3rd Edition, Bock, Velleman, DeVeaux

This textbook will be assigned to each student and will be used as the primary book for the class.

Grading: The following percentages apply for grades. A quiz will be given once weekly, a test every 2 weeks (roughly).

Homework/Daily-5%

Quizzes-30%

Tests-65%

The State Department of Education grading scale is as follows:

A100 – 90

B89 – 80

C79 – 70

D69 – 60

F59 – 0

*No midterm will be given, but a “Big Cumulative Test” will be given at the end of the first semester. It will count as two test grades for the first semester.

**A cumulative final projectwill be given and will count as 20% of your final grade. Exemptions are permitted for this exam based on AMHS policy.

Make-Up Work: CCSD rules will apply. Ask a reliable student for any missed notes. You have 2 class days to make up any graded assignment. Chapter test grades replace missed quiz grades; therefore you do not make up quizzes. If you are present on an announced test or quiz day, YOU MUST TAKE THE TEST. Prior approval for missed work/tests is always recommended.

Behavior: Our class will follow the rules that we agreed upon on the first days of class. We each signed a copy of these rules. They are as follows.

CLASS RULES:I will be quiet while others are talking and/or working.

I will respect others’ property, person, and feelings.

I will be responsible for my work and my actions.

I will clean up after myself.

I will be prompt, prepared, attentive, and actively participate in class activities.

I will follow all AMHS and CCSD rules.
