GCHS CLASS OF 2019 - FRESHMAN YEAR REGISTRATION NOTES

THINGS TO CONSIDER

CREDIT NEEDS:

  • Athletic Eligibility: Promotion from 8th grade
  • Graduation in 2019: Twenty-five (25) with at least 16 required courses

GRADUATION RECOGNITION:

  • GCHS is now recognizing students through the Latin honor system used by colleges and universities.

  • 3.5 and above = honors

PRE-COLLEGE CURRICULUM:

  • Meet GCHS minimum graduation requirements
  • Plus 2 credits of same foreign language
  • 3 Rigorous Electives - from core academics, fine arts, additional foreign language, career/technical courses above the first year introductory level

HONORS & ADVANCED PLACEMENT (AP):

  • Minimum grade required in prerequisite course
  • Scores on state and standardized assessments also reviewed for approval (MAP, Explore, etc.)
  • KEES gives bonus for AP Coursework
  • School Based Scholars opportunities (minimum GPA, ACT score)
  • Dual credit opportunities

CAREER & TECHNICAL PROGRAMS:

  • Must be a student in “good standing” in terms of attendance, discipline & credits towards graduation

CREDITS for GRADUATION:

  • English - Levels I, II, III, IV
  • Math – Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, Math Elective
  • Science - Integrated Science I, Biology, andChemistry or Physics
  • Social Studies –World History, Integrated Social Studies, USHistory
  • Health/PE
  • Arts/Humanities (May have taken Foundations of Visual Art, Concert Choir, Chamber Singers, Symphonic Band, History of Rock and Roll, Musical Theater, Percussion Studies orHistory/Appreciation of Visual/Performing Art)
  • Electives – 9 Remaining Credits

COMPLETING THE REGISTRATION FORM

  • Write in your name (print neatly),science teacher and class period
  • Write in your career interest/pathway choice
  • Remember we have 5 periods/semester in a day to fill (10 blocks)
  • Requirements =Five (5) core classes: English I, Algebra IorGeometry H or Geom/IED, Int.Science Ior Biology I, World History & Health/PE (may be deferred to another year)
  • Electives = Two or Three (2 or 3) possible elective credits.
  • Electives:
  • Select classes equal up to six or seven (6 or 7) full credits in any combination of one semester or two semester values. Remember you must meet the pre-requisite.
  • For each class you choose, write:
  • Course number
  • Course name
  • Elective courses must be listed in order of preference.
  • Review with parent/guardian(s). Student signs & parent/guardian signs.
  • New for 2015: Attend Operation Preparation with your parent/guardian on Thursday, March 12, 2015. You may sign up for a time slot on Thursday, February 26, at the scheduling informational meeting or contact Cheryl Arnold at GCMS, 859-824-7161, beginning February 27.

Turn in your completed registration form during Operation Preparation, Thursday, March 12, or to your science teacher by Friday, March 13, 2015.
