8th grade Physical Science Ms. Rosen

Class Expectations and Guidelines 2017-2018

Hello!! My name is Ms. Rosen and welcome to 8th grade Physical Science. This year we will learn about chemistry, physics and astronomy. We will also be transitioning to new standards this year.

I. Course Objective

  • To figure out that science is actually really cool, if you didn’t know that already!
  • To be able to recognize and understand the science in our every day lives.
  • To have fun while learning and wanting to know more about the topics we explore.

II. Student Rules and Expectations: I expect that you act like a mature and responsible 8th grade student.

  • Be seated and ready to work when the bell rings. 3 tardies = detention.
  • Be prepared everyday, no locker passes. If you forget work then you’ll lose credit.
  • Raise your hand and wait to be called on, please do not talk over others.
  • Zero Tolerance Cell Phone Policy. (Unless instructed ahead of time to bring them in for an assignment.)
  • Lab safety rules must be followed at all times. (ANY fooling around during laboratory class days will result in lost laboratory privileges, as well as a, grade of zero.)
  • Right now, draw a smiley face with hair in the top right corner. Don’t tell anyone.
  • Stay organized, you’ll thank me later!
  • If you are absent it’s your job to find out what you missed!
  • Be respectful of yourself, your classmates, and myself.
  • Ask questions, have fun and be yourself!!

III. Class Materials

**Organization is a key to success in science. Bring these materials each day.

  • 1 composition book (this is your journal which will stay in class)
  • 1 3-subject spiral notebook (everything we do will be kept in this notebook) OR you may use a binder instead (you will need to hole-punch everything and have loose-leaf paper)

  • Pens, #2 pencils, highlighter and colored pens for corrections
  • Colored pencils, basic calculator and a full size ruler
  • Glue stick, scissors and scotch tape (you will definitely want your own tape)

IV. Assignments

**All assignments kept in your spiral/bindermust include a heading: name, datea title!

  • Keep all assignments (classwork, homework, etc.) in order, you will have a table of contents to keep updated. Attach worksheets either with tape or glue, depending if they are double-sided.
  • If you have a printer issue – email the assignment to me. If you have computer issues, plan ahead and use the computer lab/library to complete assignments.
  • Homework will always be posted on the homework board, write it down!
  • Quizzes are usually open-note, so be prepared. I love pop quizzes!! 
  • Upcoming tests will always be announced and posted on the homework board. It is your job to copy this information into your agenda book.
  • Cheating or copying will result in a zero for the assignment!

V. Discipline Policy

**You are each responsible for your own actions. Be respectful and be nice to each other!
