It’s almost time for school to begin!
Are you ready?
On the first day of school, August 25, you may report directly to your room as early as 7:00 am or as late as 8:45 am.
Clothes:
Please dress your child comfortably so that he/she can take advantage of all learning opportunities, indoors and outdoors (please keep in mind weather condition). Close toe shoes for running and climbing are essential to your child’s safety. Sandals, flip-flops are NOT allowed. We cannot let you child in school without the proper shoes.
We have paint smocks and will encourage children to wear them, however; it is likely that your child will get messy in the course of active hands-on exploration of our variety of materials (art, sensory, science, cooking, playing) To maximize the child’s experience it is best it he/she does not have to refrain from full participation out of fear or worry about getting messy, please help your child select clothes appropriate for a full day of play.
Please refrain from dressing your child in clothes in which you would feel very sorry if they are damaged, stained or lost.
Toys:
Due to the risk of damage, sharing issues, and loss, children are not permitted to bring in toys from home, unless specifically requested by the classroom teacher for use as part of the curriculum. Parents are responsible for enforcing this policy with their children, the staff will call the parents and require that they come to the school and remove the toy.
All toys brought in for use as part of the curriculum, and/or for nap/rest time will be inspected by YPW staff for safety and appropriateness, and may be prohibited at the sole discretion of YPW.
School Supplies:
The school provides all school supplies that are needed. Not need to bring blankets/sleeping bags/mats for nap time.
YPW Spanish Immersion School provides cots, blankets and sheets for all of our students.
Food:
Snack menu will be posted for your information. Please send with your child a healthy lunch. Keep sodas, candy, etc. for treats at home. The children will need healthy foods to fuel their energy needs (fruits & veggies). The school provides organic milk once a day. Please send lunch and morning/afternoon snack if your child is in the toddler or infant class.
Drop off and Pick Up:
q Earliest drop-off is 7:00 am and can stay as late as 6:00 pm. Please don’t drop off child later than 8:45 am.

q Drop – off location for Toddlers: Toddlers classroom
q Drop – off location for Young Early Preschool & Early Preschool: From 7 to 8:30 am Early Young Preschool classroom. From 8:30 to 9 am in corresponding classrooms. After 9 am at the office: One of our staff members will take your student to the corresponding classroom.
q Drop – off location for Preschool & PreK: From 7 to 8:30 am PreK classroom. From 8:30 to 9 am in corresponding classrooms. After 9 am at the office: One of our staff members will take your student to the corresponding classroom.
Please bring your child into the classroom no later than 8:45 a.m. Taking part in morning activities will give your child a better feeling throughout the day. This morning routine is an important time when the children exchange greetings with teachers and classmates. After 9:00, the teachers and children become involved in the daily routine and it can be difficult to pull away and properly greet a latecomer. Avoid dropping children off between the hours of 12:00 to 2:30. During this time the children will be preparing for and taking their naps.
If you know you will be late, please let your teacher know or give us a call so we can be prepared.
Only authorized persons (as specified in the admission form) will be allowed to pick up children. You must let the office know in writing when someone not specified in the admission form is coming to pick up your child.
Checklist for the first day of school:
Send any paperwork you have not yet turned in to the office. Please remember that any student without an up to date signed immunization record and Emergency Contact Information form will not be allowed to stay in school.Sign your child in and out each time your arrive and / or leave the facility
Label nap items, food containers, cups, bottles. All of your child belongings.
This way, It is much easier to make sure items are returned to their owners
Bring nutritious lunch
Send a bottle/sippy cup of water everyday to school
If your child is in the toddler / infant class, do send lunch and morning / afternoon snack.
Bring weather appropriate change of clothing. Make sure your child always has an extra set of clothes at school at all times. Accidents happen!
Bring diapers, moist towels, diaper cream if needed.
