Summer Term Curriculum

Class:4B/4LOur Topic: The World Around Us

Subject / 1st Half Term
English
/ In English we are learning about -
-Stories from other Cultures
-Developing basic skills e.g. grammar, spelling and handwriting
-Julius Cesar by William Shakespeare
Mathematics
/ In Mathematics we are learning to-
-Use number and place value
-Mental and written subtraction and inverse, addition
-Understand shape and measures
-Fractions and decimals
Timetables and mental maths will be revised every day. Additionally there will be a maths challenge every Friday which will consist of maths games and word problems.
Science
/ Our Science topic is Solid and Liquids; through this topic we will be learning about-
-Mixing and filtering solutions
-Separating solids and liquids
Computing
/ In computing we will be following the Film it program – using Audacity to record sound and Photostory3 to combine with images.
History
/ In History we will be learning about Mountains, focusing on the traditions of people living in those areas, climbers and explorers.
Geography
/ In Geography we will use maps and atlas’s to explore Mountains, ranges and the settlements.
Art / DT
/ In Art we are looking at a viewpoint of our world around us.

/ In Music children will have the opportunity to learn to play a musical instrument through our ECAM Project (Every Child A Musician).
Religious Education
/ In R.E we will be learning about ceremonies across religions.
Physical Education
/ In P.E we will be developing our –
-Tennis and ball skills, athletics
-Swimming
Personal, Social and Health Education
/ Through the subject of Philosophy For Children (P4C) we will be developing –
-Debating skills
-Questioning skills
Modern ForeignLanguages
/ We will be learning Spanish. Our topics are days, months and family.
