Rationale: / Manufacturers of the Aluminum Dome Roof do not design the tank or foundation, but loads from the roof need to be considered.
Proposal: / G.1.3 General Application
G.1.3.1 New Tanks
When this appendix is specified for a new tank, except as otherwise specifiedmodified in writing by the Purchaser, the following conditions must be met:
a)The tank manufacturer and the foundation designer shall be responsible for including loads transmitted from the aluminum dome roof (as provided by the roof manufacturer) in their respective designs.shall be designed to support the aluminum dome roof. The top of the tank shell shall be structurally suitable for attachment of the dome roof structure.
b)The tank shall be designed by the tank manufacturer as an open-top tank, and its wind girder shall meet the requirements of 3.9.
c)The aluminum dome roof manufacturer shall supply the magnitude and direction of all forces acting on the tank as a result of the roof loads (based on allowable tank out-of-roundness tolerances),,together with details of the roof-to-shell attachment, and the maximum acceptable tank deflections at the attachment as the result of roof loads (see “a” of this section) to the tank manufacturer.
d)If Tthe dome roof-to-shell attachment shall includes an integral tension ring as part of the dome roof designed to minimize transfer of forces from the dome to the tank then the dome manufacturer shall verify the roof design is adequate to meet the acceptable deflectionsof the tank due to loads provided in (a).
d)e)or If an integral tension ring is not supplied then the tank manufacturer is responsible to modify the tank shall be designed to resist forces being transferred from the dome in addition to basic requirements for shell design (due to wind, seismic and hydrostatic loads), and be within the acceptabledeflections (see “c” of this section) under all specified load cases (see G.5.).
e)f)The as-built minimum and maximum diameter at the top of the shell and the orientation of all tank appurtenances located above the primary shell stiffener (wind girder)top wind girder, if any, shall be reported to the roof manufacturer. The collection of the data shall be performed as agreed upon between the Purchaser and the tank manufacturer.
G.1.3.2 Existing Tanks
When this appendix is specified for an aluminum dome roof to be added to an existing tank (with or without an existing roof), unless otherwise specifiedexcept as modified by the Purchaser,the following conditions must be met: the roof manufacturer shall verify that the tank has sufficient strength to support a new roof.
a)Information on the existing tank shall be provided by the Purchaser (see Appendix G Data Sheet). Purchaser shall specify any existing or new appurtenances to be accommodated by the roof manufacturer.
b)The roof manufacturer shall supply the values of all the forces acting on the tank as a result of the roof loads (based on actual conditions measured per “f” of this section), together withand details of the roof-to-shell attachment along with the maximum allowable radial of the tank shell at the roof-to-shell attachmentdeflection.
c)The Purchaser shall verify the adequacy of the tank andfoundationsto support the new roof. The manufacturer shall provide supports that adequately distribute loads into the top shell course, based on existing tank details and the retirement or corroded shell thickness to be specified by the Purchaser.
d)Unless otherwise specified, any reinforcement required to enable the tank to support the roof shall be the responsibility of the Purchaser.
e)The roof-to-shell attachment shall include an integral tension ring as part of the dome roof designed to minimize transfer of forces from the dome to the tank, or the tank shall be designed to resist forces being transferred from the dome in addition to basic requirements for shell design (due to wind, seismic and hydrostatic loads), and be within the acceptabledeflections (see “b” of this section) under all specified load cases (see G.5.).
f)The aluminum dome manufacturer shall verify verify determine the minimum and maximum diameter at the top of the shell and orientation of all tank appurtenances applicable to the roof. The collection of the data shall be performed as agreed upon the Purchaser and the aluminum dome manufacturer.
g)The design and erection of the roof shall accommodate the actual tank shape. The existing tank shall be equipped with a wind girder that meets the requirements of 3.9 for an open-top tank.
