Approval of Minutes of June 2006 and September 11, 2006 – Moved and Seconded; no discussion.

Treasurer’s Report (Nita Lynn) –

Financial Report – COMMUNITY NETWORK: (Terralyn Dokken) – $75,000 in Family Policy Council funds, plus $7500 (allocated) from Community Juvenile Justice Collaboration. There are about $20,000.00 in funds that need to be allocated. These funds include an additional $17,000 awarded back to the Network after funding cuts. The Network will allocate those funds at the next meeting.

PRESENTATION
Kim Kettel – Youth Prevention Program Director. Kim shared wonderfully rich information about her Program. The main emphasis is on exemplifying the Social Development Strategy – bonding and attachment to the Community (the Tribe). Thank you, Kim – what an amazing program!

COMMUNITY NETWORK

Florence reminded the group that we are trying to co-track the PW and CN meetings. We have been identifying people who could fill the membership of the CN. There does not need to be a formal vote to bring the new members into the Network since they have been appointed by local entities. New members include:

There is a process with Family Policy Council to outline plans for coming year. Emphasis on Community Collaboration, Home Visiting and Parenting Classes. The FPC also sponsors a conference the end of November, in Vancouver, WA. The fee is $250 all inclusive. National speakers with an emphasis on emerging research. This year the focus in trauma, intergenerational trauma and youth suicide (as well as what communities can do to support returning veterans).

  1. Rosemary NewDay announced that Tanya Ritchie is the new director of the Head Start (Lower Elwha)
  2. Ellen Fetchiet shared some resources from the CADCA conference
  3. Patty Bell announced that Juv. Services is beginning an Anger Mgmt. program (no criteria for inclusion); to begin around the first of the year
  4. Nita Lynn – Attended the United Way of WA meeting in Seattle – emphasis on early learning; she is also participating in the Governor’sSummit on Early Learning. Nita reports that all eyes are on WA re: early learning.
  5. Laura reported on the Standards, a 5-brother a capella group espousing drug/alcohol prevention.
  6. Kim Kettel was at the tribal gathering, sponsored by DASA, and will attend the Prevention Summit
  7. Sue Renes – Adjusting to working to shorter hours; Laura is semi-placed in Port Angeles. Sue was with a research group in North Carolina, dealing with crime and violence prevention.
  8. Iva says “get your flu shot and wash your hands”

9. Florence reported on the Dad’s Event progress; Kristin Schutte will come back on November 14th to update the group on funding cuts. Location: HHS Conference Room

10. Terralyn added that there is a training on Nov. 15th for Community Network – as a part of our contract. 2 members will need to attend (Sea Tac).

Norma reported that the 5 Year Prevention Plan is “plunking along”. Perhaps it is overly optimistic to have the plan done by the end of December.
