Hi Parents

This newsletter contains quite a lot of information. If any clarification is necessary please contact me through the main school office. Thank you.

My gratitude to you all for your support through this crucial first half term when staff, pupils and parents are all settling with new classes etc.

ANY ISSUES? You may remember that on Open Day you were asked to complete a form listing Any Issues. This form will go out again to parents during the course of the school year. We are hoping for this to be another opportunity for parent to air their views. With 650+ pupils I am pleased that only 12 families had any issues. Half of these were to do with play time incidents; some to do with Special Needs and a couple of others ‘miscellaneous’ issues. No parent should ever be suggesting that our school never does anything about an issue of concern.

TALKING SPORT: Congratulations:

  • Emie Stamp (Y6) – during October she competed in a gymnastics competition and qualified to compete in the 2018 World Championships in Orlando, Florida. What a fantastic experience that will be. GO FOR IT EMIE! – Well done.
  • Aiden Doyle (Y5) – Found a little toddlers’ teddy (lost for two days) and handed it in to the school office. This was claimed by mum – very proud of Aiden – her little boy is happy.

SAFEGUARDING – CHILD SAFETY:

Reminders:

1. Concerned parents have quite rightly notified me regarding children on bikes not wearing their safety helmet. Please keep checking - children not wearing a safety helmet should not be riding a bike to school.

2.Other concerns have been raised about the dangerous driving and parking in and around the streets surrounding our school. Please don’t hesitate to take photos and send any registration numbers straight to the police. Keep Our Children Safe.

This half term, sadly, there have been a couple of incidents which have concerned me in relation

to safeguarding our pupils. They are hopefully resolved but it is important that all parents are

aware of the issues I and my team have to deal with sometimes:

1.Incidents involving parents arguing or showing friction towards each other should never happen on our school premises – or indeed on the way to and from school when there are many families with young children nearby.

I have often shared my philosophy that every single parent/relative involved with our school should be a positive role model for our children. There is no place for adult/family squabbles at our school.

2.Also this term there has been occasions when one parent has confronted someone else’s child – again, this is a definite ‘NO’. No matter how angry a parents is no adult has the right to go face to face with someone else child.

I always try and be open with matters arising of concern. Parents are reminded that there is no

place at St Andrew’s for any negative ‘clashes’ by parents. Our school has a reputation for

keeping our children safe and secure.

At St Andrew’s there has been 6 occasions over the last 24 years when parents have ignored our

safeguarding, welfare policies, and have been banned from our premises. Thankfully, it is only 6 –

but my role is always to monitor the well-being of our pupils and their families.

BUILDING WORK: At the Community Centre – starts next week. This project is to expand the

provision for the Play Group/Just 4 Kidz.

Please note that the builders are using a large part of the Community Centre Car Park so, for

Health and Safety reasons, the grey gates leading into our school two car parks will remain closed

for the duration of this building work. Sorry for any inconvenience.

GRAND CONKER COMPETITION 2017:

Wow! Once again I had lots and lots and lots of conkers sent in to me! Some beautifully packaged.

Another very close contest. Thanks to all children who entered – and their families of course.

Hope you didn’t get muddy! First of all a big well done to these kiddies who just missed out on

having the BIGGEST or SMALLEST conker.

HALF TERM HOLIDAY:

Our school closes at 3.30pm tomorrow (27th Oct) and re-opens at 8.30am on Monday 6th

November.

A HARVEST POEM – A fine example of parent and child working together….. This was attached

to the family’s food gift for our Harvest Display……. By the Warneck Family (Sophia is in Y1).

Food we take for granted

Until all the food is gone

You’ll never see the bountiful

Only when there’s none.

The generosity of others

To give when there is need

Helps us to help the vulnerable

When there are mouths to feed.

We all have times of struggle

And it’s nice to know we’re there

To help you in your time of need

At St Andrew’, we really care.

Now that’s what I call being a positive role model.

COMING SOON: Parents’ Art Gallery – contributions needed from parents, grandparents,

ex pupils, relatives, friends of the family – grown-ups being positive role models through ART.

Further details to follow.

FOR PARENT AWARENESS:

STAFF TRAINING: I would like to publicly thank my staff for once again being involved in our

annual residential training weekend. This first started in my first year here at St Andrew’s as a one

off event to develop our team and support staff in building on the next range of skills needed to

provide a quality education for our children.

These weekends are voluntary yet my team annually leave family and the home comforts in order

to go that ‘extra mile’ (as they so often do for our Residential Raywell trips) in giving their best for

the pupils – and their families - of St Andrew’s.

I felt it important – on behalf of my staff – to celebrate their professional commitment and

dedication to duty. This year we again looked at a variety of issues:

  • Dyslexia
  • Modern Foreign Language
  • Geography
  • Health Education
  • PHSME
  • RE
  • Re-cycling
  • Problem Solving
  • Enterprise
  • Cultures
  • Shakespeare in the Primary School
  • Literacy/Reading Progress
  • Assessment Systems (accuracy)
  • Rock Challenges (an extra-curricular project)
  • Cross Curricular Issues
