Dear Colleague,

You may be aware that over a number of years the City has continued to grow with a greater number of families choosing to move to and stay in Manchester. This has led to an increase in demand for school places. This demand for primary, secondary and special places is projected to continue.

In anticipation of the increased demand, particularly in the secondary sector in the central part of the City, Manchester City Council is consulting on plans to develop a new secondary school. The proposed secondary school will be an 8 form of entry (1200 pupils) co-educational school planned to open on 1 September 2016 on the site of Daisy Mill, 345 Stockport Road, Manchester, M13 6LF in Ardwick Ward.

Consultation literature explaining the proposal in greater detail has been produced and will be circulated to a wide range of stakeholders, with an invitation to submit written comments. I attach a copy of the consultation literature for your attention and would welcome your views on this proposal. To assist you in coming to a view, you may wish to read a copy of the report considered by the Executive on 1 October which provides background information. This is available at You can also visit the site to submit your comments.

This initial consultation period is from 6 October to 31 October 2014 and focuses on the type of school needed for this area. Feedback from the consultation will inform the specification for the school which the Council will develop. Once the specification is developed the Council will invite interested parties to submit an expression of interest in becoming the provider of this school. This process will take place from 10 November and will end 19 December 2014.

Please note there will be further opportunities for consultation on the planning of this site and once a planning application is submitted for the proposed school a formal consultation process will take place where the views of neighbouring occupiers and interested parties will be sought as part of this process. Full advertisement of the receipt of the planning application will take place at that time including notification by letter to neighbouring occupiers.

I hope the information contained within this letter is clear. However, if you require further information then please send your query to

Yours sincerely,

John Edwards
