Championship Tournament

The CIF Los Angeles City Section Golf Championship Tournament will be a one day, 18 holes tournament.

Player Check-In: Any player whose coach or school designee is not present at the designated Check-In time will be disqualified from competition. If an alternate replaces the coach as a school designee, the person must meet Title V (current CPR and First Aid requirements). The school must notify the Section Office with the name of the designee at least 48 hours prior to the City Championship date.

Qualifying Scores: To be entered in the Los Angeles City Section Championship Tournament as a team, the team must consistently shoot 215 for 9 holes during league play. All scores must be played at a regulation golf course.

To be entered as an individual, students should consistently score fifteen (15) over

par for 9 holes during league play. All scores submitted must be from regulation golf

courses. A golfer who is unable to attend the championship should not be entered

by the coach.

Seeding and Entries

Entries will be based on average strokes above par at a qualifying course. League Managers are required to submit the scores. All scoring information must be emailed to John Aguirre by Saturday, Oct. 28th. Include the school, golfer’s name, grade, and average score over par. The committee will be made up of the Tournament Director and Golf Coordinator.

League Managers must send a copy of their League Standing, team averages, win-loss record and individual player averages over par to be submitted to the Athletics Office representative for archive purposes. League managers that do not submit required information by the required date will not receive FOG league manager funding. Schools qualifying up to three players must provide one scorekeeper for the championship. Schools qualifying four or more players must provide TWO scorekeepers. The names of the scorekeeper(s) must be provided at the time you submit your scores.

Officials: SCGA will provide Officials at the Championship to rule on situations that arise during the competition. The tournament directors will communicate with the officials to ensure tournament integrity.

Coach’s Requirements

1)  Coaches will be assigned to a foursome to act as the supervising coach to provide direction, rule interpretation or consult the rule officials / tournament official as needed, and maintain confirmation of scores for each players within their foursome. Only head coaches are allowed to communicate with players between holes. Coaches will NOT be allowed to play, as maintaining scoring accuracy will be the main responsibility. Any player whose coach or school designee is not present at the designated report time will be disqualified from competition.

2)  Coaches will be held responsible for enforcing the following rules:

i.  Cheating will not be tolerated.

ii. Scores must be accurate. Assigned supervising coach is asked to verify scores after each hole.

iii.  Giving advice within a group will not be allowed.

iv.  Measuring devices are allowed but no other electronic devices (cell phones, pagers, I Pods, Walkman’s, etc.) will be allowed on courses. (Penalty: Disqualification).

v. Only head coaches of a team my communication with their players between holes. Anyone other than the head coach (spectator or volunteer coaches) are not permitted to communicate with players during the match. Violations will lead to disqualification.

vi.  Once a participant completes the competition, he/she is not allowed to return to the course. Only exception; competitors who have completed competition are allowed to await competitors at the 18th hole (Penalty is disqualification).

vii.  Competitors will not be allowed to wait in the parking lot or in car for their coach or other players. All players that remain for the award ceremony are required to remain near the 18th hole or the Club House area.

Score Keeping Players will maintain their own score card and deliver the signed card to the supervising coach of their foursome after completion of the 18th hole. All cards must be accurate without error and signed by the player. The supervising coach will verify the scores. Players are allowed to confirm score after each hole with the supervising coach.

Rules: For the Girls’ Championship, a team with qualifying scores shall be composed of at least five players but no more than six, with stroke play for eighteen holes to determine the City Championship Team. The team with the lowest five scores shall be declared the City Championship Team. At-large competitors will also play at this championship to determine their status in the individual competition.

3.  Individual Player spot 12 and tie for tournament championship

a.  If there is a tie for the last playing spot for Regionals or the tournament champion, there shall be a sudden death playoff with all individuals tied for the last position or first place for the tournament.

Distance-Measuring Devices:

Players may obtain distance information by use of a distance-measuring device. If, during a stipulated round, a player uses a distance-measuring device to gauge or measure other conditions that might affect his play (e.g. elevation changes, wind speed, etc.), the player is in breach of Rule 14-3. The device used may not be a cell phone. Any questions about such devices should be resolved before the start of the stipulated round.

The penalty for breach of this rule is a 2 stroke penalty, any subsequent offense is disqualification.

Advice:

Participants are reminded of Rule 8 (Advice and Assistance) of The USGA Rules of Golf which specifically prohibits players from receiving any counsel or suggestions from anyone, (including their parents, coaches and other players, etc.) which could influence them in determining their play, the choice of a club, or the method of making a stroke. Penalty for breach of Rule 8 in Stroke Play is two strokes, a second offense is cause for disqualification.

CELL PHONES AND COMMUNICATION DEVICES:

The use of wireless handheld devices (smart phones) on the golf course is prohibited by players.

All coaches and spectators should turn their cell phones off and place them in a location that is out of sight.

Spectators: Spectators will be allowed to follow the golfers during competition. All spectators must remain outside the tree line and off any playing area. No contact or communication with competitors will be allowed at any time. Any violations of this requirement will result in disqualification of competitor(s) involved. Spectators will not be allowed to use golf carts. Physically disabled spectators must request approval from the Sport Coordinator to use a golf cart. Participating schools must ensure that parents and fans are notified of this policy.

Regulations and Reminders for the City Championships:

1.  All players are expected to display appropriate behavior at all times.

2.  All players must wear the appropriate clothing to include the same Team shirts in school colors for all golfers. Boys: Proper shorts (Bermuda length tailored dress shorts), or pants. Golf shoes are recommended (preferable soft spikes).

3.  Players and coaches must check-in between 7:30-8:00 A.M. at the scoring table.

4.  No club throwing, ball throwing, swearing, yelling or any other improper or abusive behavior will not be allowed. The penalty will be two strokes for the first infraction, and disqualification for the second infraction.

5.  During play, players may not receive information that could help the player. Any violations will result in disqualification.

6.  Spectators will be allowed to follow the golfers. All spectators must walk the course; remain outside the tree line and off any playing area. No contact or communication with competitors will be allowed at any time. Any violations of this requirement will result in the disqualification of the competitor. Spectators are not allowed to use golf carts except with approved request from Tournament Director.

7.  Smoking is not permitted in any area near or on the golf course, including the parking lot. Any player who violates this rule will be disqualified. Any spectator who violates this rule will be removed from the course.

8.  The maximum number of players per team is SIX. Schools with 4 – 6 entries shall send two scorers to the tournament. Coaches must stay for the entire event.

9.  Schools with golfers in the tournament are required to send a certified coach to work the event. Players whose coach does not arrive by check-in time will not be allowed to register/participate. Coaches who do not have players in the finals are requested to assist with management of the championship.

10. DISTANCE MEASURING DEVICES, Players may use a device which measures distance only. Players may NOT use a cell phone applications as the use of cell phones is prohibited. The use of devices that gauge or measure other conditions, in addition to distance, that might affect a player’s play (e.g. wind of gradient) is NOT permitted, even if that feature is turned off. No other electronic devices (cell phones, pagers, I Pods, Walkman’s, etc.) will be allowed on courses. Violation penalty is disqualification

Awards

All awards will be presented at the conclusion of the tournament. A Team Championship Plaque and six medals will be presented to the first place student team and a Team Runner-up Plaque and six medals will be presented to the second place team. Medals will also be given to the top ten individual finishers.

Twelve Individuals and two 6-person teams

Five Scores will be counted for team scores.

Reimbursements:

Qualifying players and their head coach are eligible for reimbursements of 50% of allowable expenses for meals. Meals will be reimbursed with itemized receipts for up to $18.00 for the day. Due to the proximity of the golf course, reimbursement for overnight lodging will not be provided for coaches or qualifiers. Reimbursements request must be received within 14 days of the event and must include all itemized receipts for meals. Late requests will not be processed. No reimbursement will be provided for travel expenses (BOM 2013)
