Christmas Body Words

Tell them to get into teams of about 5.

Pick a word from the ones on the screen, or any other word that they can think of that has something to do with Christmas.

On the screen: baby stable manger wiseman sheep angel myrrh donkey Mary Jesus etc

They then have to try and use their bodies to spell it out.

(they can stand on the pews if it helps)

If only a few groups, get them out to the front one by one to show it, or get them all to do it where they are if there are too many - the best one(s) can come out and show the rest. A bar of chocolate or similar for each member of the best team.

Message: We found it hard just to bend our selves into a Christmas word, yet at Christmas we believe that God became a tiny little baby – Jesus was just like us, and yet in him the whole of God can be seen. God squeezed himself into his last word to us - Jesus

So, since God went to all that trouble, and managed to do this miracle, then surely we want to thank him, and trust him for the rest of our lives.

Follow on, but not necessary:

Did you enjoy spelling a word? How would you shape your body to spell XMAS?

Practise it a few times, then play the music. Even young kids know this (somehow – by osmosis…)

Download a karaoke version of it and check that the verse/chorus order is the same. I used this one and just edited it down –you can fade it out. It’s 79p.

X.M.A.S. (YMCA)

Listen, there’s no need to feel down

I said, listen, pick yourself off the ground

Listen, though the weather is bad

There’s no need to feel unhappy

Listen, there’s a reason to cheer

Listen, It’s that time of the year

You can party, you can celebrate

You can eat your weight in chocolate!

It’s time to celebrate XMAS

It’s time to celebrate XMAS

We all jump for joy, we’re all over the moon,

Because Christmas is coming soon

It’s time to celebrate XMAS

It’s time to celebrate XMAS

It’s a miracle, this baby’s God’s Son

And it’s good news for everyone!

Hey there, back in Bethlehem

I said hey there, God showed he is our friend

I said hey there, we see just what God’s like

In a babe born in a stable

Let’s all, make a noise and a fuss

For at Christmas we see how God loves us

And to show that we are thankful to him

We all give our gifts on Christmas -

Day! Day! Day! Day! Day!
