Expectations (Yours and Ours)

Over the last few years we’ve heard your comments about wanting more time to work, needing more food options, and spending more time together. We’ve taken them to heart and have made changes. Here is a list of expectations you can have from us and that we believe you will fulfill.

You can expect from us.

1.)  A list of projects that your group will be likely working on during your stay. We do need to complete projects before moving on to new ones. But we will attempt to let you know a week to 10 days before you come to camp what kind of projects you will be working on.

2.)  Less time waiting and more time doing. We will strive to get you to projects with the materials you need in a timely manner.

3.)  Good meals. We know that you are working hard and that teens eat more than youngsters. We will have more substantial meals available for you and will have available a soup and sandwich bar or some other means for you to supplement the nutrition needs you might have. Some meals may be prepared on site at Christ Serve Ranch.

4.)  Quality Bible study and devotion time. We believe this is a significant part of your servant experience.

5.)  Camp experience. We believe that it should not be all work. We want your participants to enjoy our beach, horseback riding, and recreation areas and will provide time for that to happen.

What we expect from your group.

1.)  That you would let us know of any special talents, abilities, or equipment that you have that could help us with specific projects.

2.)  About 6 hours of work minimum from your group members each day. That will generally happen in the morning and afternoon.

3.)  That you will let us know of any safety issues that you see. This may include use of equipment, condition of buildings, or ways that we do things.

4.)  That your group will participate in activities of camp including devotions, Bible studies, and recreation.

5.)  That you will let us know how we can make your stay even better. Don’t hesitate to let us know how we can improve things. We learn from you.

6.)  We expect you to have a great time in the Lord while at Lutheran Island Camp and Christ Serve Ranch. You are God’s servants and are representing what that means not only to our community but also to the young campers who will be sharing the camp with you.

Each year young people, college students, and adults travel to Lutheran Island Camp and Christ Serve Ranch from around the country to participate in exciting servant event activities. Our Building the Island events allow youth to work at the 67 acre Island, refurbishing buildings, working with people with disabilities (Sonshine camps), making trails, and other projects on the waterfront. Our Christ Serve Ranch Servant Events allow participants to work at the nation’s first environmental learning center where creation is taught. They work on expanding trails, building experiments and exhibits, preparing horse and bike trails, and taking good care of the environment. Other servants prefer to travel to our Native American outpost in Inger, MN. where they work with Native American families and children in a variety of ways. Specific projects can be found on our website: www.islandcamp.org.
