Chris Lyijynen – 7th Grade Science Lesson Plans – April 25 to 29

Monday

No school

Tuesday

TSW: Explain how matter is cycled through ecosystems.

Activity & Assessment: As a class, use interactive H20 Cycle board to complete diagram from Project Wet. Then, view and discuss Nitrogen and Carbon Cycles diagrams. End by watching related Brainpop clips and Biome videos.

HW: None

Science Standard: S4C3P5,6, EL: S3E1,24,27

Wednesday

TSW: Explain how living organisms move energy through an ecosystem.

Activity & Assessment: Begin by creating Class-Size Food Web w/ teacher given materials. As a class, begin notes from 1.2 & 1.3 Ecology Powerpoint, use text pages 22-28. Discuss √ Ur Reading questions as you read. Use Classzone.com and reading CD to guide class. End by creating vocabulary diagrams.

HW: 6 Four-Square Diagrams

Science Standard: S4C3P1-3, EL: S3E1,24,27

Thursday

TSW: Demonstrate how organisms use resources to thrive in niches and predator/prey relationships.

Activity & Assessment: Begin by discussing expectations/rules for Oh Deer activity. As a class, go outside and conduct Oh Deer Experiment from page 146-149 of Project Wild. End by discussing population data from experiment.

HW: None

Science Standard: S4C3P1-3, EL: S3E1,24,27

Friday

TSW: Analyze how organisms use resources to thrive in niches and predator/prey relationships.

Activity & Assessment: Begin by discussing prior data and knowledge of graphing. Individually, graph population data from Oh Deer Experiment. Conclude by writing 2 paragraph reflection essay explaining the causes of deer population changes, on lab or in notebook.

HW: Oh Deer Graph and Reflection

Science Standard: S4C3P1-3, EL: S3E1,24,27

Monday (2nd)

TSW: Identify various biomes/ecosystems capable of sustaining life.

Activity & Assessment: Start by reviewing Oh Deer Graph and then setting up notebook for movie notes. As a whole class, watch various short biome movies charting 10 facts about each, (temperature, rainfall, location, plants, & animals). End by discussing movie notes.

HW: None

Science Standard: S4C3P1-3, EL: S3E1,24,27

Tuesday (3rd)

TSW: Describe the energy roles of organisms in an ecosystem.

Activity & Assessment: Begin w/ discussing food chains. In small groups, dissect owl pellets and solve worksheet. End by discussing owl food chain.

HW: Owl Pellet Worksheet

Science Standard: S4C3P1,2, EL: S3E1,24,27

Wednesday (4th)

TSW: Construct food web and explain energy roles of organisms.

Activity & Assessment: Start w/ reviewing Owl Pellet Worksheet. As a class, read article, Biomagnification, from page 29 of text. Last, watch various biome movies and chart facts on each type.
