2006-Present: LeadInstrument technician (Production Services Network. Judy/ Jade)

As a core crew team member I am responsible to respond to all operational needs, which include breakdowns and routine maintenance. This involves arranging the correct permitry and gathering all the information (cause and affects, loop drawings, trip points and interlocks).

AsLead instrument technician I am responsible to ensure all platform instrumentation and control systems are operating correctly. These include wellhead control, separation, fire and gas, ESD,AGT generators, Novo Pignone gas compressors and ABB Advant DCS equipment. I am required to work on my own initiative or as part of a team ensuring that tasks are carried out with minimum production loss and above all safely.

My duties as Lead Tech involve planning, prioritizing and delegation of tasks within the instrument department. I am also required to provide technical assistance and to give advice on instrumentation issues to platform management.

I am part of an intervention team that is responsible for maintenance and operations of the Jade platform which is a high pressure/high temperature Normally Unmanned Installation.

My duties in this role include Deputy OIM,control room operator, deck crew, heli-deck crew, emergency response team and assisting all other trades.

2005-2006 Instrument Technician (Woodgroup. Brent Delta)

As part of the core crew my duties are to ensure that the platforms integrity and safety systems are maintained to the highest standards. This involves raising work orders, arranging the correct permit and gathering all the information (cause and affects, loop drawings, trip points and interlocks) required to carry out the job safely.

As an instrument technician my responsibilities are to work well equipment, drilling equipment, on gas production and safety critical equipment (equipment with plant safety shut downs, fire and gas, deluge and fine water sprays).

2004-2005 Instrument Engineering Assistant (Scottish Power)

Based within the Engineering department working Monday to Friday. Responsibilities specific to project engineering and reactive maintenance. My expertise enabled me to prioritize, plan and execute these repairs as necessary. This involved modifying/repairing apparatus and control systems.

1999-2004 Instrument Technician shifts (Scottish Power)

Working for the shift managerproviding a prompt response to various instrumentation and control faults. Working under pressure and to tight timescales, this work involved reactive repairs to the Power Station’s extensive I/O which feeds the Distributed Control System. Instruments from turbine supervisory equipment to pressure transmitters were just some of the Instrumentation that the shift Instrument technician was expected to maintain.

1994-1999 Instrument Technician days (Scottish Power)

Carrying out preventative/reactive maintenance on all instrumentation within the Power Station. Work with a wide variety of pneumatic, electronic and microcomputer instruments used to measure and control variables such as pressure, flow, temperature, level, motion, force, and chemical composition, including Calibration, Diagnostic Fault finding and using System Drawings.

1993-1994 Instrument Technician Retraining (Scottish Power)

  • Consult manufacturer's manuals, circuit diagrams and blueprints to determine tests and maintenance procedures for instruments used for measuring and controlling flow, level, pressure, temperature, chemical composition and other variables in manufacturing and processing
  • Inspect and test operation of instruments and systems to diagnose faults using pneumatic, electrical and electronic testing devices and precision measuring instruments
  • Repair and adjust system components, such as sensors, transmitters and programmable logic controllers, or remove and replace defective parts
  • Calibrate components and instruments according to manufacturers' specifications
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance work and complete test and maintenance reports
  • Install control and measurement instruments on existing and new plant equipment and processes
