FET1.7
TrainerSafetyPoster
In this assignment, you’ll be learning a little more about lab safety, plus you’ll be learning a little about the various trainers we have in the lab. You’re going to create a safety poster for one of the trainers in the engineering lab. You may do this by yourself or with a partner. You’ll first pick one of the trainers, then create the poster for that trainer.
Choose Your Trainer
The process for choosing a trainer will be part random, part choice. Once you have your trainer, that’s it – no swapping, no whining. The trainers are:
- Robotics
- Pneumatics
- Electrical Control
- Mechanical Fabrication
- AC/DC Electrical
- Machine Tools
- Mechanisms
- Measurements
- Computer Numerical Control (CNC) Mill
- Computer-Aided Design (CAD)
Background Research
- Look at your trainer to get familiar with what’s there – what tools and equipment do you use, etc.
- Go to and research your trainer – read about what it does, what you learn, etc.
- On your computer, open the Amatrol Interactive Multimedia software and browse the trainer modules.
- If necessary, as a last resort, use other websites to find out more about what you might do at that trainer.
Create Your Poster
Start with a blank document in Word. You may use either portrait or landscape orientation. Create a poster that contains the following:
- An appropriate title that includes the name of the trainer and the word ‘safety’.
- An appropriate graphic – can be a picture, clip art, or similar.
- At least 6 appropriate rules for your trainer. You can use rules from your notes or rules you find on the Internet. You should have 3 personal safety rules and 3 tool-related rules.
- Your name(s) at the bottom.
Guidelines and Helpful Hints
- Name your file ‘1.7 Safety Poster - <your name(s)>’
- Your poster should fit on ONE page.
- Your rules do not have to match word for word the ones we discussed in class. You can reword and/or combine rules as long as the meaning is clear.
- Use textboxes for the text on your poster. This will allow you to move the text and place it wherever you want.
- Don’t put anything within ¼ inch from the edge of the page. The printer will not print things that are near the edge.
- Use any fonts you want as long as they are readable.
- Use font sizes large enough to be seen. Your title should be larger than the rest of the text.
- DO NOT COLOR ANY BACKGROUNDS! Leave the backgrounds white.
Turning It In
Review all the directions and guidelines. After you’ve made sure your poster includes everything, make sure you’ve saved it somewhere. Prior to printing, let me look at it first. Once I give the OK,print it to printer HCHPRN313.
