Salary: £22,057 Pro rata

Hours: Part-time (2.5 days / week)

Reports to:Programmes Manager

Children of the Andes (COTA) is a dynamic UK registered charity that works exclusively with children and young people in Colombia. COTA works with partners who are experts in their field, supporting them to work with some of Colombia’s most at risk children and young people and helping them to ensure that other agencies, such as government, fulfil their obligations to these marginalised children. The children we work with include: Children affected by displacement as a result of the ongoing conflict, children affected by Commercial Sexual Exploitation, children who have been sexually abused, working and street involved children, and children leaving care. In 2015 we are embarking on a number of new partnerships and looking to expand our work in Colombia. The Trust Fundraising Officer will play a key role in this effort.

Working under the supervision of our Programmes Manager, you will assist in raising and reporting on restricted and unrestricted funds from trusts and foundations, and a small number of corporate donors. We are seeking a dynamic individual with experience of raising funds from trusts and foundations.

Key Responsibilities

Fundraising

  • In collaboration with the Programmes Manager, research and draft funding proposals for use with trusts and foundations and corporate donors
  • In collaboration with the Programmes Manager, prepare narrative and financial reports for donors, using monitoring information from partner organisations
  • Maintain and develop relationships with Trusts and Foundations
  • Manage the calendar of funding applications
  • Conduct ongoing research into new trusts and donor trends and match them to new and existing funding priorities
  • Research funding opportunities from institutional funders
  • Update and input details of trusts on the database (or oversee volunteer in this task)
  • Monitor and record income from trusts and share with other staff as required

Project information

  • Coordinate the internal management of information on restricted funds.
  • Assist the Programmes Manager with analysis of project data where necessary

Person Specification

Essential

  • Experience in raising funds from trusts and foundations
  • Excellent English writing skills
  • Knowledge of and interest in International Development issues, particularly as they relate to children and/or Latin America
  • Spanish language skills or proven ability to learn other foreign languages
  • Ability to gather, analyse and process information for reports and funding proposals
  • Ability to manage financial information for budgets and financial reports
  • Willingness and capacity to multi-task and manage own administrative needs
  • Excellent organisational, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong sense of initiative
  • Strong IT skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Self motivated and pro-active with the ability to work as part of a team and independently
  • Excellent team-working skills

Desirable

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Masters in International Development, Latin American Studies or similar
  • Understanding of socio-political context of Colombia
