JOB TITLE: CAFETERIA TECHNICIAN

CHILD NUTRITION SERVICES

QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from accredited High School or GED Program

REPORTS TO: School Site Cafeteria Manager

JOB GOAL: To participate in the meal production and operation of a School Cafeteria

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Ø  Practices the philosophy, policies, and regulations of all Child Nutrition Programs.

Ø  Prepares food items according to menus and standardized recipes developed for breakfast, lunch, and snack meals.

Ø  Assists in maintaining inventory of USDA Commodities, purchased foods, supplies, and equipment; assists with receiving and storage of all inventory.

Ø  Practices safe food handling and storage to ensure proper temperature, palatability , and appearance.

Ø  Adheres to work schedule and written instructions regarding food preparation, cleaning of the facility, and operation of equipment.

Ø  Operates and maintains all school kitchen equipment.

Ø  Adheres to meal serving times as determined by the daily activity schedule of the school site; serves meals according to rotating work schedule.

Ø  Participates in school site Health and Wellness Team by implementing student dietary needs as directed

Ø  Maintains high standards of health, sanitation, and safety.

Ø  Adheres to work schedule regarding cleaning of all areas of the kitchen and dining room; responsible for table, floors, sinks, and walls.

Ø  Operates dish machine for washing and sanitation of trays, flatware, pots, pans, and utensils; uses appropriate manual ware-washing procedures for pot and pan sink.

Ø  Implements appropriate diet modification procedures for students with special dietary needs; adheres to recipes and instructions for food preparation and portion control as directed.

Ø  Cooperates with School Administrators, Cafeteria Manager, and parents in working with School Nutrition programs.

Ø  Attends district-wide Staff Development and School Food Service Training programs as scheduled.

Ø  Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS OF WORK

Graduation from accredited High School or GED program preferred

Completion of School Food Service Phase I Training Program

Completion of 6 months acceptable work experience which provides the following

knowledge, abilities, and skills:

Ø  Knowledge of food preparation and the functional operation of a school kitchen

Ø  Ability to prepare food according to written instructions and standardized recipes

Ø  Knowledge of basic kitchen routines, safety, and sanitation requirements

Ø  Ability to read directions for operation and maintenance of all types of kitchen

equipment

Ø  Ability to use basic mathematics skills

Ø  Ability to communicate effectively with cafeteria personnel, students, school

Ø  administrators and school community

Ø  Ability to withstand Working Conditions listed below
