  1. Welcome
  • Jeff Gallagher, CEO, Virginia Bio took roll and thanked Martin Chapman for his efforts as roll of Foundation Chairman for the past 3 years. Then Jeff thanked the current slate of Directors for their years of service. Jeff asked that current directors take a moment and discuss what they believed had worked in past and what they would like to see the Foundation work on in the future.
  • Bob McKown
  • Bob discussed that he was happy that foundation has kept its focus on education and would like to see the Foundation keep in better touch with Virginia Universities. He believes this can be done through more work with the Internship program.
  • Jeff Conroy
  • Jeff thanked Martin Chapman for his service to the Foundation. Jeff stated the Foundation needs to focus on finding funding sources for Foundation activities.
  • David Lay
  • David discussed that he was impressed with the Foundation’s high level of focus towards education.
  • Martin Chapman
  • Martin would like to see Foundation focus on spreading the Foundation’s mission and goals to broader audience. He would also like to set the Board of Directors set manageable goals for the Foundation.
  • Tom Huff
  • Tom stated the he would like to see the Foundation work more with Universities in regards to internships. He would also like to see the internship program become more meaningful for the interns and universities.
  • Mike Grisham
  • Mike stated that he feels that the mission of the Foundation is extremely important and that it is important for theeveryone on the Foundation Board and Virginia Bio Board of Directors need to support the Foundation and its activities, and he will work to do so.

  • Mark agreed that mission of Foundation is extremely important.

  • The 2013 -2014 slate of Directors was presented, the slate of Directors is as followed

  • The above slate of Directors was passed by an unanimously by current Directors on the call.vote.
  1. Remarks of the new Chairman Jim Powers Discussion
  2. Jim Powers started his discussion by thankeding Martin Chapman for his service as Chairman, and all former Board members. Jim then discussed his vision to grow the Foundation and its mission as he sees it in these first days. has newly elected Chairman. Jim would like to see the Virginia Bioscience Foundation grow its visibility and programs. He understands that in order to do this he is seeking help from people on a part-time unpaid basis to help with seeking sources of funding andin coordinating Foundation programs.Jim suggested that the Foundation consider focusing in the near term on high VA BIO member participation in meaningful internships and also A practical way forward may be to Once, Jim finds these individuals he would like testingnew his programs and eemphasisemphasis in the Charlottesville area , and then expanding move them across the state to supplement ongoing programs of the Foundation.
