Chemistry( R track)

Final Project

This project will be research-based on the topic of your choice that MUST be approved by Mrs.Ananth before you can begin your research. Below, you will find a timeline you will need to follow, as well as the rubric for your project.

Timeline:

Due Date / Description / Points
Project Topic / By Wednesday, Dec 20th / Submit a short typed description of what your project topic will be, how you will find the information, and why you believe it is interesting enough to research. / 10
Three Resources / Tuesday, Jan 3rd / Submit at least three resources that pertain to your topic that you will use. These must be accredited sources: ask if you have questions about the appropriateness of a source. / 10
Project Poster / Thursday, Jan 12th / Students will create a poster about the topic of their choosing. The poster should be neat, colorful, and have enough information on the subject (see poster rubric below) / 100
Poster Presentations / Friday, Jan 13th / Each student will present his or her poster project to the other students in the class. The presentation should be about 5-7 minutes long and should cover the most pertinent and interesting information. / 50
Gallery Walk / Jan 16th to Jan 18th / Students will have time to walk around the “gallery” and observe each other’s posters. They will have to write about what they learned from each project, a compliment, and a suggestion. / 30
200 Total Points

The most important thing to remember is to be creative and research something that you are actually interested in!

Poster:

The majority of points for this final project come from the creation of your poster. This poster will be graded using the following rubric:

Description / Points
Title / Should be descriptive enough to get across what / 5
Introduction / Introduce us to what your topic is about, how it relates to chemistry, and why it is interesting enough to research. / 10
Interesting Facts / There should be at least 4-5 interesting thoughts and facts about your topic as well as a short descriptive paragraph for each. / 40
Why did you choose this topic? / Why did you choose this topic? / 5
Conclusion / Summarize your research, explain how you could apply this subject to your everyday life, and what you could research further about the topic / 10
Works Cited / On the back of the poster should be your works cited page. All your citations should be in MLA format and there should be 5-8 sources. / 10
Pictures, Charts, and Illustrations / Include graphics that illustrate any points you are making as well as any pictures, charts, graphs, diagrams, etc. that might be helpful to the reader. Include a description for each graphic. / 10
Neatness and Organization / The poster should be laid out and presented in a neat and organized manner so that the reader can easily determine the points being made. / 5
Formatting / Make it colorful! All text should be legible and easy to read! Be creative! / 5
