Course Outline

1. Units of Study - Textbook-Pearson

- 1MP: Ch.4,6,5.1,7.1,13.2,13.4,14.2, 7.1,7.2,8.1,8.2 + outside resources

- 2MP: Ch.11.1,11.2,17.1,16.1,18.3 + outside resources

- 3MP: Ch.17.117.3,17.4,18.5,R41,25.3 +outside resources

- 4 MP: Ch.11 (pg.874), 25.1,25.2, pg. 83,R18, pg. 226,237,735,R27,15-1, pg.52-53,pg. 576-577 + outside resources

2. Tests: All tests will be announced approx. 1 week in advance. We will review in class before each test. ALL TESTS BELOW A 70 MUST BE SIGNED BY A PARENT, IF NOT PARENT WILL BE CALLED.

3. Quizzes: May be announced or unannounced (pop quiz).

4. Projects: Students each quarter will be assigned a project. Students will be given specific guidelines to follow.

5. Class Participation: Every student is expected to participate in class activities and/or discussions.

6. Make-Up Policy: If a student is absent on the day of an announced test or quiz/pop quiz, he/she will be expected to take the test or quiz upon his/her return. If a student has an extended absence and provides a parental written excuse, arrangements will be made for make-ups. All work must be made up within a reasonable period of time after the student's return.

7. Homework Policy: Homework will be given at regular intervals and will be checked and/or graded. Late HW- 1 day late=1/2 credit, 2 or more days late=zero. CURRENT EVENTS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED LATE.

8. Notebook: Students are required to have a 3 ring notebook. Students are to have a separate section for a). Classwork-Notes, Lab write-ups, activities, demonstrations, presentations; b). Homework; c). Tests & quizzes; and d). Other. The textbook/notebook will be checked and/or graded periodically throughout the year. All assignments, notes, etc. are to be dated. STUDENTS ARE TO KEEP A DAILY ASSIGNMENT SHEET WHICH INCLUDES THE DATE, CLASWORK, AND HOMEWORK EVERYDAY FOR THE ENTIRE YEAR. STUDENTS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO USE ANY PERSONEL ELECTRONIC DEVICES (ex. cell phone, smart phone, Ipod, etc.) EXCEPT WHEN THE TEACHER AUTHORIZES IT ONLY FOR EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES!

9. Grading: 30% ClassworkHomework, Tests 30%, Quizzes-20%, and 20% Projects.

Procedure:

Observations & sketches with labels. Written description with sketch. What did you observe.

Data: Must be organized in a chart with labels & proper units of measurements. Also include any graphs here.

Questions: Answer in complete sentences.

Conclusion: Should be 1/2-1page. It should relate to the purpose of the lab. It must go beyond the analysis of what is obvious.

*Checklist lab: All labs may be typed or in blue/black ink. No ragged edges. The labs must be neat, organized, complete, and follow the rules of Proper English. Labs must be stapled and placed in my basket before the late bell.

12. Cutting class-referral to main office-parents will be called-receive a zero for any assignments missed that day including tests, quizzes, and/or projects (refer to school's discipline code).

13. Cheating: on quizzes, tests, projects, classwork, and/or homework-students involved will receive zeros and parents will be called (refer to school discipline code).

14. Current Events: will be an on-going project throughout the year-Students are to summarize and present orally to the class a Science related article from a current (within a year) magazine or newspaper approx. every 2 weeks usually on a Friday. Students will be given a format to follow. Students will also write a reaction to the article.

15. Extra credit questions may appear on quizzes and tests. No points will be deducted for incorrect answers to extra credit questions. Answering the extra questions can only help you. I encourage all students to try them.

16. Extra credit assignments will be offered from time to time throughout the year. Students are strongly encouraged to take advantage of this. CAUTION: EXTRA CREDIT ASSIGNMENTS DO NOT TAKE THE PLACE OF ANY ASSIGNMENT.

17. Extra help: If you need extra help make an appointment with me in advance, I will gladly help you. Parents will need to provide students with transportation before or afterschool for extra help.
