Cheerleading Expectations and Consequences

The following expectations and consequences apply to every cheerleader at GreenwoodHigh School.

I. Expectations

  1. Cheerleaders must be in proper dress at all practices, games, and cheer functions. Proper dress includes:
  • No jewelry, glitter, metal hair bows, feathers, or fake eyelashes of any kind
  • Wearing the designated uniform, including specified shoes and socks. Cheerleaders must have written approval from the coach before altering the uniform in any way. Cheerleaders will not be allowed to cheer without an approved uniform.
  • Appropriate sports bra, without visible straps
  • Fingernails not extending beyond the fingertip
  • Hair up and off the shoulders and away from the face
  1. Attendance
  • All cheerleaders are expected to be at EVERY practice, game, and event ON TIME.
  • An excusedabsence is a funeral, doctor’s note, or required school business.
  • In order to participate in any cheerleading event, you must be marked present for 3 periods or 2 blocks of the school day.
  • The coach should always know about an absence or tardy prior to start time.
  1. Cheerleaders are expected to pay for uniforms, bloomers, midriff tops, shoes, poms, camp,

and other items deemed necessary by the coach. Nothing will be ordered until ithas been paid for in full. Full payment is due June 1, 2012.

  1. Varsity Football Cheerleaders must travel to and from all away games on the bus provided. Other cheer teams will travel only to away playoff games, and the same bus rules will apply.
  2. All cheerleaders are expected to be positive role models for Greenwood High School.
  3. Cheerleaders must have a current physical, dated after April 1, 2012, in order to attend or participate in any cheer event.
  4. Cheerleaders must understand and follow all rules and guidelines of the South Carolina High School League, the National Federation of High Schools, and all policies of the Greenwood High School Athletic Department.

II. Consequences

The following Minor Offenses will result in a 1 game suspension. When a cheerleader receives a 1 game suspension, the cheerleader must dress in full uniform and stand in a separate area, as designated by the coach.

  • A combination of two tardies or early dismissals from practice or games
  • Any absence, excused or unexcused, from practice
  • Out-of-School suspension
  • 2 days BIC within season
  • Unexcused absence from school on a game day
  • Insubordination towards coach or refusal to cooperate.

The following Major Offenses will result in removal from the team. When a cheerleader is removed from the team, there will be no reimbursement of costs and any unpaid balances are due immediately. The cheerleader will not be eligible for any team awards, including certificates, MVP, Coaches Awards, or state rings or medals.

  • 1 unexcused absence from a game.
  • 2 unexcused absences from practice.
  • 2 excused absences from a game.
  • Insubordination towards coach or refusal to cooperate.
