Life Map

You will use the information gathered during the career exploration unit to plot out your future plans. You will construct your life map on a white sheet of paper. The life map should include written facts at each important “stop” along the way as well as images or icons. The life map should include all of the following, but may include more information. Remember this is the “yellow brick road” for your future career. When finished attach this form to your life map.

Check off as you accomplish each step:

 ______Where you are now: grade, school

 ______High school courses needed for career path (what career options are the closest to what you want to do?)

 ______After high school, business plan for career path (necessary training, places to receive training, etc.)

 ______OR – After high school, colleges that offer your degree, entrance requirements, possible scholarships, course load, etc.

o ______Include the degree you want

o ______How long it will take

o ______3 places you can obtain that degree

o ______How many credit hours is the degree?

 ______First in-field job (salary, availability of job, benefits and drawbacks, places to find job, outlook, etc.)

o ______What is that first job?

o ______How much will you make at first?

o ______Will you need more training or education to advance in your career?

 _____Second in-field job (increased salary, benefits, new location, more responsibility?)

o _____What else could you do after you have had some experience or how can you advance?

You may also include social aspects if you would like. How will this fit into your plan? Are these things realistic and do they complement or work with each other?
